Believed to be long to Routledge Brothers who ran a general store business in heathcote. They also owned a sawmill and quartz crushing battery.one of three books donated to the Museum, were found by the donors father back in the late 1960's while he was working on renovations to a building in heathcote these books had been thrown onto a pile of builders rubble, he retrieved them. when he passed away some years later his son found them while clearing out his effects, have travel through several house changes till 2010 when the son was doing a cleanup and the books were found again he contacted the Historic Society, date back to first settlement of Heathcote, inside writing is in excellient condition, as if it were written yeaterday. give a daily account of purchases by locals.gives us an insight into persons living and working in Heathcote McIvor district. The "Viva" was a steamboat operated by George Dent that ran on the Yarra River between Princes Bridge and Hawthorn Bridge from 1860-1861. Printer flyer pasted onto cardboard advertising ferry services between Melbourne and Hawthorne [sic]. Corrections to ferry departure times are in black handwritten ink. Flyer has losses around edges and stains from 'blue-tack' verso. HMAS Orion (S 71) was an Oberon class submarine of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). One of six submarines ordered by the RAN during the 1960s, Orion, named after the constellation in a break from ship-naming tradition, was built in Scotland and commissioned in 1977. Orion was decommissioned in 1996, marked for disposal in 2003, and broken up for scrap in 2006. Ron Hayward's family ran a shop in Rupert Street, Orbost.This item is associated with the history of the Orbost-Bairnsdale railway line and therefore reflects the role that the rail line played in the social and economic history of Orbost. Last Friday he rode on the last diesel too Orbost after obtaining a special pass from V-Line. He also handed over the staff for the last change at Orbost. The last driver was Bill Buckley. Mr Hayward was an engine driver with nhe railways and transferred to Orbost when steam engines used the line. He left the railways in in 1957 but took up a job with them again in 1968. The Bogong Hotel, Tawonga, commenced in 1886 and was burnt down in December 2011. The Crotty, Higginson, and Hore families ran the hotel over the years.The Bogong Hotel was 125 years old when it was burnt down in December 2011. It was the meeting place for locals of the Upper Kiewa Valley and was run by local families - the Crotty's, Higginson's and the Hore's. Vera Hore was born in 1909 and died in 2000 having run the pub for many years.
