Photograph of W6 969 being rewired at Preston Workshops, possibly early 2000s. Has the Yarra tram logo in the centre doorway. Tram has been placed on stands to enable the work. During Feb 2011 the tram was sold and placed on display as a coffee and drink bar at the Melbourne Arts Centre. Ephemera - Tram Monthly ticket book, Victorian Railways (VR), Feb. 1922
Victorian Railways Rail & Tram Monthly Periodical book of tickets with conditions of travel on the inside covers. See reference page 124/125 and Figure 6-35. Book of 60 tickets (No. 49) for Feb. 1922 from North Road to St Kilda. The traveller also had to hold a monthly rail ticket for St Kilda station to Melbourne. The conductor would tear out each ticket and hand half one portion back to the traveller. Has been stamped "cancelled". See item 1688 for a single sheet example.Demonstrates a Victorian Railways Rail and Tram monthly ticket for a specific section or trip on the St Kilda Brighton tramway. May have been used as a training sample. Manual - The Melbourne Electric Supply Co. Service and Wiring Rules, Melbourne Electric Supply Co. (MESCo), 1918
The Melbourne Electric Supply Co. operated a Power Station in Richmond and provided power to the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust and the Hawthorn Tramways Trust. They also provided power to Geelong and operated the Geelong Tramway system. MESCo Geelong and Richmond operations were taken over the SECV in 1930. The book gives the requirements for wiring of building and switchboard. Yields information on the electrical requirements that electricians were required to work to where MESCo supplied electricity. It would have been used in the development of the SEC rules. Has a strong association with one of the MESCo Electrical Inspectors.Book - The Melbourne Electric Supply Co. Service and Wiring Rules - 64 pages, centre stapled, dark fawn covers. Provides rules for the Melbourne (Richmond) and Geelong undertakings. Dated 1/4/1918. Has a number of printed updates pasted into the book along with a typed and hand witten note. Price 6d. Has an index.Some hand written notes on the various clauses. Has the stamp of "Electric Inspector" in the top right hand corner. Twenty four page, centre stapled book within green Rexene covers with paper sides and gold blocked title "The Melbourne Electric Supply Co. Ltd. / Geelong Electric Tramways / Rules and Regulations / For Motormen and Conductors / And Bye-Laws". Provides 76 General Rules for crews and 34 Bye-Laws. Bye-Laws jointly authorised by City of Geelong, Borough of Newtown and Chilwell and Borough of Geelong West, under the provisions of the Tramways Act 1890. Dated 1929. Each copy has a book number stamped on the top right hand corner of page 1. Copy 1 - 739 Copy 2 - 765 Copy 3 - 766 Replaced by Reg. Item 3109 in 1932 by the SEC. Melbourne Electric Supply Company tramway Conductors at the depot in Geelong with one of the summer cars, 11 or 12, behind. Three Inspectors are in the centre of front row. At the far left is an upturned can of Shell benzine that fueled the company's three buses which ran from 1912 until 1923. The date of the photograph is between 1916 and 1923 as the Inspector on the right was a Motorman in a photograph taken in 1916.Black and white print on paper.,The No. 1 in a circle written in ink on the reverse.
