Colour photos of a trip by the Walking for Pleasure group for a walk by the sea. Participants would meet at Legacy House and make their way to a destination, sometimes by bus, or train or even ferry in the case of trips to Williamstown. Walks were generally on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month. The sessions were a fun way to exercise and enjoy the company of others. The events were advertised in the Answer and anyone was welcome to join. Legacy organises outings and events for the widows to participate in. Names are not known except Rosemary Valkenberg in pale blue. Location and date is unknown, probably about 2005 due to then other photos they were stored with. The ladies had stopped for refreshments in a cafe and were transported by McKenzie coaches. Next door is the original Bush Nursing centre, then Dalgety's, the Bakery, the Milkbar and on the corner is the Bank of New South Wales building, Elder's, Green's drapery shop and the Lake Bolac Memorial Hall. On the traffic island in front of the Hall is the War Memorial and across the Woorndoo road is the Hotel (with the maroon roof) with stables behind. Alice Russell Shaw the daughter of Jessie Black Hamilton and John Shaw, married Albert Fisher in 1909 and had 10 children by him. They lived at Waterloo farm, Smythe's Road. Alice Russell Fisher (Shaw) was known as 'Queenie' Fisher. This family farmed in the Smythe's area for many years. They produced fine milk and butter. Jean, their second eldest child recalled that when they made the butter sculptures they used plenty of salt so that it wouldn't melt. The Koroit railway station began operations in 1889, with a brick building replacing an original timber structure in 1907.Once a major junction station between the Port Fairy Line and the branch to Penshurst and Hamilton, train services to Koroit ceased in 1977. The track at Koroit has long been removed. The station itself however has been preserved with heritage funding keeping it looking close to its working condition. Bridget was the daughter of John Wright MURRAY(1816-1867) and Mary SWEENEY(1833-1909). She married Hamilton DRAIN(1847-1886) in 1884 and they had a daughter, Mary Ellen DRAIN(1886-1888). Following husband Hamilton Drain’s death in 1886, and her infant daughter Mary’s death in 1888, Bridget married Michael Dillon in 1894. It appears that she and Michael had no children together. Electoral roll records indicate that Michael was a farmer and that he and Bridget lived in Research, Vic. Some damage has occurred to their monument and the Eltham Cemetery Trust would like to locate a next of kin or family member. Unfortunately, there was no purchase information recorded, only the following details; no next of kin. Bendigo Advertiser ''The way we were'' from 2000. Watering hole: the Queen's Arms Hotel was built by James Hamilton in Russell Street, Quarry Hill, in 1872 when Quarry Hill was sparsely populated. Within a year there was a regular omnibus service from this hotel to the centre of Sandhurst. A veranda was added later. The hotel architects were a mining engineer Robert Moffat, who spent three years in partnership with Joseph Brady in the early 1870s, meeting the needs of the mining industry. The five stained glass windows were made by Rosemary Spencer. to the design of Bruce Hutton. The stained glass depicts the story of St John of God in Ballarat. Bruce Hutton of Almond Glass Works designed the stained glass window and did the hand painting for the Chapel in St John of God, Ballarat. Almond Glassworks was responsible for the overall construction and installation of the window. The concept was developed with the then head of mission, Maureen Waddington. The window was installed on the 30th of October 2019. Almond Glassworks was founded by Bruce Hutton in 1994. He completed a Fine Arts Degree (Chisholm Institute of Technology) majoring in stained glass in 1988, he then went on to work in the industry both in Australia, England and South Africa. He completed a Postgraduate (Monash University) in 1996, focusing on the conservation and restoration techniques of stained glass.
