Photo of Ballarat No. 18 photographed alongside MMTB AEC Regal Mk III bus, No. 543 (42 seats) (Reg. No. HJG 543). TMSV tour photo for the 60th anniversary of electric trams in Ballarat on 15th August 1965. No. 18 has a specially painted board over the front of the tram "60th Anniversary / Electric Trams / 1905 Ballarat 1965". Standing between the tram and Bus are Les Denmead, D. Irvine, J. Dowd and T. Young. Both vehicles showing "Special" and standing on Ballarat depot fan. Photo also appears in "MMTB News", Oct - Nov. 1965, Reg. Item 2719.7. Dave Macartney advised 19/11/01 that other the other official guests at the event was Mr. F. K. White, Manager Ballarat SEC and that it took about 3.5 hours to travel from Melbourne to Ballarat by the bus. Also attending was W.J. K. Dunstan. Tour undertaken by the TMSV to cellebrate No. 27 reaching 1,000,000 miles in Ballarat. Has a photo of the tram No. 27 at the depot (see item 3316 for a black and white print) and a photo of some of the travellers from the TMSV inside the tram (see item 3317) for details of the people. Due to a clerical error, it was later found that the tram had not reached that mark.Yields information about the No. 27 that was thought to have reached 1000,000 miles in Ballarat during 1968 - actually found out later to be an error - was about 900,000 miles. (27.01) Catalogue work sheet missing.Thought to be one of the only examples of trainee nurses uniform of the 1920s era in the ahnl archive collection.Reasonable condition. .Full length dress.Length from rt shoulder to hemline 125cms.From armpit to armpit of bodice 55cms.Full Length sleeves 66cms. Navy white cotton material in miniature houndstooth pattern.Small pocket LHS bodice.3 white fabric covered buttons on front of bodice.Press stud on neckline.X2 hook& eyes at waistband.x2 press studs off centre on skirt opening.Full length sleeves with 3cms cuff.Gathered at yoke,waist and sleeves.Slit pocket on RHS skirt. Re Apron 27-36.White apron made from Finleys sheeting.Yellow stain & repaired tear on skirt of apron.3 buttons on back to attach crossover straps. Dr George Scantlebury (1860-1923) was a medical practitioner in Linton in the late 1880s. While practising there, he married the local postmistress Catherine Millington Baynes. Their first child Vera (born at Linton in 1889) also became a doctor, served overseas during World War 1 and was later recruited by the Victorian Health Department to establish Infant Welfare Centres around the state.
