The organisation is obliged to complete an annual report. This book contained the report for the year 1865 , only eight years after commencement of services aboard the Bethel Floating Chapel. The report was presented on Thursday 26 April 1866 during a public meeting taking place at the schoolroom of the Congregational church, Collins Street East. His Honor Judge Pohlman was chair of the meeting.The report lists the members of the executive committee, chaplain, patron and other prominent members of the organisation. Further the report provides a summary of the workings of the organisation for the year as well as financial details. "Situated at the intersection of three major arterial flows – a railway, a freeway and the Birrarung river, the Mary Rogers Pavilion is a place where people are drawn together through movement. The artwork 'Momentum' draws on the coalescing flows of traffic, sound, air, time, water, and human kinetic energy, mapped together into a horizon of oscillating lines."'Momentum' was commissioned for the new Mary Rogers Sports Pavilion at Ryans Reserve, Richmond, a $3 million redevelopment in partnership with the Victorian Government. Named after the former City of Richmond Mayor, the pavilion is home to the Yarra Netball Association as well as acrylic surfaced courts which cater to netball, local tennis players and groups. 17 Fellows Street Kew was originally owned and occupied by the architect Henry Kemp. Kemp had arrived in Australia in 1886 and this was therefore one of the first of the many buildings he was to design in Melbourne. While late Victorian in date, the house is an interesting precursor of the Edwardian architecture produced by Kemp. Somewhat awkwardly composed with steep gables, a rectangular castellated tower and slated single storeyed verandahs projecting from the overall box-like form, the house contains features common to the 1880s such as the use of polychromy in the brickwork and slates cladding the roof. (Sanderson 1988). The historian Dorothy Rogers established that at one stage it was the home of Dr John Dale - Chief Medical Officer of the City of Melbourne. This photograph predates later renovations to the rear of the property.This work forms part of the collection assembled by the historian Dorothy Rogers, that was donated to the Kew Historical Society by her son John Rogers in 2015. The manuscripts, photographs, maps, and documents were sourced by her from both family and local collections or produced as references for her print publications. Many were directly used by Rogers in writing ‘Lovely Old Homes of Kew’ (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or the numerous articles on local history that she produced for suburban newspapers. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand. The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s. A copy of a speech at the Commemorative Service held during the National Conference in Townsville in October 2007. He mentions the battle of Fromelles in WW1. It looks at how lucky Australia was that Legacy was around to look after families of other conflicts. "While we send our young men and women into dangerous situations the chances are that someone will be killed. Nearing the 60th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings The Herald newspaper interviewed former light horsemen including Legatees Rex Hall and Bill Scott. The caption of the photo mentions that they would be leading the Anzac march mounted on horseback that year. Th ephoto shows Jim Holland, Rex Hall, and Bill Scott with Jim Rogers (seated). The rest of the article by John Hamilton describes the Gallipoli campaign. The article was part of a collection of photographs in an album of Comradeship activities (from 1930 to 1977) see items 01027 to 01036. The Comradeship committee gathered photos of events and compiled them in a Comradeship photo album for Legatees to look through. Pymble’, 2 Earle Street was built in 1907 with additions in 1915. It was the home of Alan and Edna Holt and family from 1958-1966. Alan Judge Holt was Secretary of the Lands Department of Victoria during his working life. He was a keen and meticulous local historian, whose work contributed significantly to this collection. My grandfather Nicholas Couzens and my uncles made eel traps to fish the Hopkins River - this is how my mother learnt the techniques which she passed on to me."Bronwyn RAZEM Gunditjmara/Kirrae Whurrong Bronwyn Razem is an Indigenous Australian basket weaver and painter. She is a Gunditjmara woman of the Kirrae Whurrong clan of western Warrnambool on the Victorian coastline. Bronwyn’s practice involves an exploration of her Indigenous heritage and identity, and she creates symbolic representations of places and events that are meaningful to her family. She integrates ochres, sand and other materials into her paintings, and her works also draw on the possum skin cloak traditions of her ancestors. In 2008, Bronwyn was chosen by the Australia Council for the Arts to be part of a delegation of Indigenous artists to attend the 10th Pacific Arts Festival in Western Samoa. Bronwyn’s mother, Aunty Zelda Couzens, was a well-respected basket weaver and elder who taught Bronwyn basket-making techniques. Bronwyn now regularly conducts basket weaving workshops with Victorian Indigenous communities in order to facilitate the revival of cultural traditions. She has a Bachelor of Arts with Honours at Deakin University, and in 2008 she was enrolled in a Master by Research degree at Deakin Institute of Koorie Education, Geelong, and was living in Ballarat. This work won the University of Ballarat Acquisitive Award for work reflecting Victoria's Western District. The judges were impressed by Bronwyn Razem's translation of the traditional eel trap into a sculptural form evocative of the flow of water and possible the passage of time. The design and technical knowhow which Razem inherited from her mother, uncles, and grandfather connects this work to the family;s life and traditions. The historian Dorothy Rogers records (A History of Kew, p.5) that "In 1888 he [Arthur Wills] took over his estate, 'Willsmere', and conducted it as a dairy farm. He was an architect by profession, and having established the farm he rented it, and returned to live in Barry Street, Kew, where his only child, Dorothy was born in 1889. He entered Kew Council in 1891, and three years later built a new house in Fellows Street, on land that Thomas had purchased at the 1846-47 sales. He became Mayor of Kew in 1896-97, and during his term of office sold this house and built the present 'Willsmere' [pictured] on the corner of Willsmere and Belford Roads. ... A leaflet from a parade held to present the Field Marshall Sir Thomas Blamey memorial fund awards and the Citizen Military Forces Officer Training course prizes for 1967. The parade was held on 26 May 1968. It included a Blamey Memorial Fund Oration by Brigadier J D Rogers which is a summary of his life and service. Sir Thomas Blamey was patron of Legacy for some years. To perpetuate his memory and achievements The Field Marshal Sir Thomas Blamey Memorial Fund was established by a number of eminent persons in late 1954. The fund was to make periodic awards to members of the Australian Defence Force selected for outstanding qualities of leadership. Carrie Rogers Murrell, b.1905 at Daylesford, was a daughter of William Murrell and his wife Lily, née Clarke/Young. She was a grand-daughter of Ambrose and Mary Murrell. Carrie Murrell attended Linton State School, completing Grade 8 in 1n 1918. She then assisted her father in the Linton newsagency, before taking over as its manager, a role she enjoyed for some seventy years. In 1932 she moved the business from its site on the west side of Sussex Street to the east side, into a shop next to the Railway Hotel that had previously been run as a shoe shop by Dan Cornish. This shop remained as the Linton Newsagency until Carrie retired. It is now used as a private residence. Tents set up along the Diamond Creek on property that would become "Willandra" a poultry farm and then in 1956 an aged care facility and residence known as Judge Book Village. It is located west of the railway line, north of the railway station in Eltham. it is believed that the convention camp were were for young people for the purpose of christian fellowhsip, bible study and worship. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo.
