Pamphlet, D. J. Everett, Ballarat tram rosters, late 1960's
Has a strong association with tram crews and the rosters crew workings, possibly D.J. Everett. Prepared by crews from sheets to enable them to know what service times to run, meal times, details of crew changes etc, based on their allocated shift or run from the roster.Thirty eight (38) page red metal spiral binding, notebook with card board covers. Each sheet faint ruled, both sides. Front cover had a drawing of a Scots lassie with a Scots terrier on a lead and a drawing of a street scene in the background with the words "Scotland" in script. Rear cover has a drawing of a castle on it. Each sheet, most left hand side only has the hand written details of each SEC Ballarat run - giving sign on times, notes, timetables, which run taken or taken by, meal times, notes with regard to special instructions, finish times and total hours worked. Image 1 shows covers and image 2, one of the sheets with the runs printed on both side of the page. On a scrap of paper, written on the back of a Ballarat Summary timesheet for a Thursday in 1968 is the run details for 22 run. Has been folded into 4. Forty Eight page book stapled with a fold out track map at rear contained within a glued light card cover. Printed on gloss paper with many black and white photos. Book titled "Melbourne's Tramways in 1974" written by David R. Keenan. Details the operation of the Melbourne Tramway system prior to the introduction of the then new Z class trams, in the final decade of the MMTB, its operations, track, training, management, power supplies, tickets and other operational systems. Includes notes on services, tramcar fleet allocation, depots, fare sections and running times. Has introduction by author looking at Melbourne compared to other tramway systems around the world at the time and acknowledgements. Two copies held. Yields information about the North Sydney Cable tramway that operated from 1886 to 1900.Twelve page booklet, yellow paper covers, centre stapled, folded A4 sheets to give an A5 book, white inside pages, titled "the North Sydney Cable Tramway 1886 - 1900". Gives a short history of the cable tramway that operated from Milsons Point ferry terminus until replaced by electric tramcars, photographs, map, and a short note on preserved cable trams. Does not note the re-use of some of the trailers for construction of the Ballarat electric cars in 1905. Published by the Sydney Tramway Museum, 5/1986. Report of a paper presented to the Ballarat Historical Society by Inspector H. P. James the previous Tuesday night. Comprises four columns of text, pasted into the book titled "Of Other Days". Five page handwritten letter on light brown or fawn lined paper within a brown envelope within Reg. Item 2488, page 105. The envelope has been glued to the back cover of the book and is address to "Mr. James Inspector / Electric Supply". Seven overseas stamps have been stuck to the envelope. The letter dated 11/10/1937 from an unknown person who lived at 305 Eyre St Ballarat, not signed, outlines the building the horse tram depot in Wendouree Parade. The person put in a quote as the plumber. Notes various aspects of working on the site, materials, difficulties, Thompson and Moore of the Adelaide as the contractors, number of people on the job, problems with the construction, wind damage, building the workers cottages, their rooves and the cash boxes for the conductors. First committee meeting on 20 April 1956 to be held to get the project of writing a biography of Sir Stanley Savige under way. John Hetherington was selected as the author for a fee of one thousand pounds, but indicated that he would not be available to begin until the end of the year and expected the writing to take 12 months. The minutes note that Sir Stanley Savige's grandson, Stanley G. Waters, was born on the eve of the meeting. See also 00635 for a full list of committee members. It is interesting to note that the meeting took place at the Melbourne Town Hall, and was attended by the Lord Mayor (Sir Frank Selleck), who arrived late.
