The store is understood to have been first owned by the Treloar and Nicholls families before being purchased by J. H. Morgan (father of H. R.. Slaughterhouse Hill was so named because Bennett's butchers had a slaughterhouse there.A view of Linton taken from Slaughterhouse Hill to the north-east of the town. Numerous buildings are identifiable in the photograph. In the middle foreground are the railway station, platform and station-master's house. The Grenville Standard building is visible in Clyde Street, and the Post Office and Bank of NSW buildings can be seen near the corner of Clyde and Sussex Streets. The Royal Standard Hotel was on the corner of Sussex and Clyde Streets, on the western side of Sussex Street. According to the first Lands Dept. plan of the area, a J.J. O'Meara is shown as owner of lot 13 in Sussex Street, Linton, which is part of the block now occupied by the Shire Offices. In an early Post Office Directory (1868), J.J. Photograph is dated between 1901 and 1914 (James Nelson Undertaker in premises next to library - he took over business there in 1901 and died in 1914, after which business became 'Nelson Bros. The girls are Elizabeth Lock and Nanette Hunt. The photograph was taken in the garden at the former Donaldson family home in Sussex Street, Linton. Unfortunately, the house is not shown - the view is across Sussex Street to a cottage on the other side of the road. Elizabeth Lock's aunt and uncle, Vera and James Johnson, bought the house from the Donaldson family in the mid 1930s. Elizabeth Lock, b.1934, often stayed for extended periods with her aunt and uncle and briefly attended school at Linton in 1941. Note that the block of land which was traded was not the block in Sussex Street, Linton on which the Sandows had a shop and house, but a block just outside the town boundary, near the Geelong Road (Linton-Naringhil Road).
