Lined up in the foreground along the side of the Dummy are approx 20 tram crew and other staff, most in assorted uniforms with unbuttoned jackets. Illustration of Driver John (Jack) O'Callaghan and a conductor at a terminus or short working with tram W 342. Has the dates regarding the tramcar's working life on the top of the illustration. Advised by Donor that Jack was a "tram employee" between 1919 and 1922, a Gripman - 1924 - 1925 and a Motorman 1928 - 1931. After that he was a signalman. The photo was possibly taken at an opening of new track event. Scanned from an original photograph by the donor and sent to the depot when visiting about organising a tour. Tram crew in full uniform of the era, driver holding the controller and brake handles. Design based on the Electric Supply Co of Victoria tokens. Used by the Museum as a fare payment mechanism or system. With the use of coins or banknotes being phased out and replaced by digital means, it is not possible for the traditional fare payment system to be demonstrated by conductors or tram crews. Maintains the mechanism or practice of exchanging a "coin" for a tram ticket. Visitors pay an entry fee at the new Museum and are given a token for each person. When ready for a tram ride, each passenger gives the token to the Conductor or Driver who issues a paper ticket. Tokens are: Green - 1/- Adult, blue - 6d - Child, red - 3d - concession, purple 1d - members and guests, and orange - no value - baby or under 4. Also maintains the traditional system of conductors accounting for tokens (or cash) and the number of tickets issued.Demonstrates a fare payment system that maintains a strong interpretative link to traditional methods for visitors.Set of 5 plastic fare tokens used by the Ballarat Tramway Museum manufactured during 2021. Both cuttings pasted onto off white paper. and Newspaper name and date type on the top. .1 - "Geelong Trams May Stop After Sunday" - date obscured due to silver fish damage, some time between the 20th and the 29th - regarding a potential strike of Geelong tram crews due to grievances with the roster, walking times. Newspaper Clipping - from The Argus 28 October 1940, titled "Last of Cable Trams / Quiet passing after secret send-off", about the closure of the Bourke St cable tram routes the previous Saturday nights when the trams were withdrawn prior to the schedule time and replaced by buses. Gives details of the last tram, crews etc. Notes the driver of the last Nicholson St tram as J. Peden, conductor A. C. Craven, Mr. M. McSweeney as the bus depot dispatcher, Mr. E. Lang as the first driver and conductor, Mr. J. Lee. Also quotes Mr Bell that the tram tracks would be kept in running order if needed, but new cables would be needed.
