Members of the local community have gathered to plant an avenue of honour. Through community fundraising, funds for over 140 trees had been raised.An avenue of honour was planted after World War I (WWI) to commemorate those from the area who had died during service. The arboreal Avenue of Honour has been an enduring and highly popular form of public commemoration of military service in Australia. With a significant groundswell of community endeavour, as a nation, Australians have chosen to recognise service, sacrifice and suffering through community plantings of memorial Avenues of Honour. The earliest recorded Avenues of Honour were created in response to Australia’s participation in the Boer War, but the majority were established during and after World War I and, to a lesser extent, World War II. This dressmaker's model has been made by a New York firm (1971 model) and comes from the Fletcher Jones Factory in Warrnambool. It would have been used for making and displaying ladies' clothing made at the factory. David Fletcher Jones (1895-1977) served in World War One and in the 1920s set up as a travelling hawker selling drapery in Western Victoria. In 1924 he opened a men's wear shop in Warrnambool and manufactured in sute. In 1946 a Fletcher Jones shop opened in melbourne and in 1948 a factory was established in Warrnambool with a new company, Fletcher Jones and Staff begun in 1951. The company initially specialized in men's trousers but later expanded into both men's and women's clothing. It became an Australia-wide company known throughout the country until it ceased in 2011 and the Warrnambool factory buildings were sold.This dressmaker's model is of considerable interest as a memento of the Fletcher Jones and Staff Company, founded in Warrnambool, employing many local people for a great number of years and known throughout Australia for its quality products and pioneering business model as a founder and staff co-operative.This is a dressmaker's model with the body section (bust and torso) having a fabric cover over a wooden core. The top section is bronze-coloured with a silver rim. Beneath the body section is a wire frame and a metal base on castors. The castors are rusty and the fabric is broken in places. Men have started to form the Mt Victory Road. Until the 1900's access to the Stoney Creek gorge was via a winding bridal jinker track. Increased traffic lead to much of this route being widened into what became known as Bluff Road. Stem pessaries were instruments used for rectifying uterine displacement, either ante or retroversion. The pessary consisted of a stem and bulb or ball. The stem was introduced into the vagina, and the bulb rested against the cervix/uteri. An external wire frame could be attached to the bulb. The wire frame would be positioned to press on the pubis, thus keeping the pessary in position in utero. Although this pessary has been recorded as Peaslee's it is very similar in appearance to Thomas's galvanic stem pessaries. Stem pessaries were used in rectifying uterine displacement, either acute or retroversion. Image of Frederick James "Jack" McIntosh VX34544 who served with the 2/24th Infantry Battalion during the Second World War He was born on the 9th May 1905 at Beechworth. He joined the Wangaratta RSL Sub Branch in 1946. He was Vice President for 15 years and in 1963 attained Life Membership of the RSL McINTOSH joined the Wangaratta RSL Sub Branch in 1946. He was Vice President for 15 years. As Chairman of the Building Committee he was mainly responsible for many improvements to the clubrooms.
