Else Oertel was a German internee in Camp 3A from 1940-1945. Woodworking was popular amongst the internees and it is probable that another internee in camp 3 made the buckle for Else. Photos in possession of Arthur Severino, a garrison member at Dhurringile, who also helped maintain the powerplant?. Passed on to his son, William (Bill) on his death, along with a sketch of Dhurringile (cat. C0906). The only information known about the photos is what was written on or beside them & that they were from Arthur's time served as a garrison member at Dhurringile. Arthur also apparently helped to maintain the powerplant whilst at Dhurringile. Dr Carl von Brandenstein was born in 1909 in Hanover, Germany. He studied oriental languages and the history of religion at Berlin University (1928-1934) and Leipzig (1938-1939). His doctoral thesis was a dissertation on the iconography of Hittite gods. He was arrested in Persia in 1941 and sent to Australia where he was interned at Loveday Camp South Australia and in Camp 1 Tatura from January 1945 until his release in August 1946.Four artworks in a dark wood frame with terracotta coloured matte.
