In 1853, Bendigo Miners protested against the 30 shilling miners licence the had to pay the government. They wore red ribbons to show their protest and shopkeepers hung red ribbons outside their premises in support. Thousands of miners signed a petition to Governor LaTrobe to no avail. A protest gathering in Pall Mall marched to the Government camp on Camp Hill but this was a peaceful event again to no real avail.The Red Ribbon Rebellion, The Bendigo Petition 3rd - 27th August 1853. Report - original typed copy - six foolscap sheets bound within a brown card folder, stapled, with adhesive tape binding on the outside. Titled "Speed Tests - PCC Type Car No. 980 - June 1950", marked "Chairman's Copy", dated 17 July 1950, prepared by the MMTB Testing Department, Report No. S21/1/2. Gives details of testing done to determine the coasting characteristics of the tram, with crush, seated or no load. Tested in Miller St, Preston. Also reports on the maximum speed compared to car 888, and scheduled speed. Has appendices with the actual data. Conclusion on page 3 - that 980 would show an improvement of about 5% in schedule speed of SW6 cars. Secretary and Treasurer: Mr. A. Harris. Committee: Miss King, Miss Groom, Mr. Duggan. The second page of silver and blue tells us it is vol. 1. No. 5 and the subscription for this magazine is 2/6 per copy. The editorial contains an illustration of a student with a clock and work mounting up. The message in the editorial is students are 'on the threshold of life.' Some students will be able to cope with difficulties better than others. Victorian Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VIOSH) Australia is the Asia-Pacific centre for teaching and research in occupational health and safety (OHS) and is known as one of Australia's leaders on the field. VIOSH has a global reputation for its innovative approach within the field of OHS management. VIOSH had its first intake of students in 1979. At that time the Institution was known as the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. In 1990 it became known as Ballarat University College, then in 1994 as University of Ballarat. It was 2014 that it became Federation University. VIOSH Australia students are safety managers, senior advisors and experienced OHS professionals. They come from all over Australia and industry. Students are taught active research and enquiry; rather than textbook learning and a one-size fits all approach. VIOSH accepts people into the Graduate Diploma of Occupational Hazard Management who have no undergraduate degree - on the basis of extensive work experience and knowledge. History of Saint Margaret's Church Eltham beginnings to 1888. Throughout this foundation period the community grew in numbers and influence within the developing district of Eltham. The minister's and lay readers appointed to Saint Margaret's are indentified and their contribution discussed. The significant events of the establishment of a temporary chuch and then a permanent church, the opening and closing of a denominational school, the construction of a parsonage, libraries and Sunday school are all examined. The key to the success of this faith community during its foundation years was the initiative and resourcefulness of its laypersons. - back cover.
