The bomber being restored is the oldest surviving complete Canberra. This plane flew continually from 1951 —1973 and was used in both Malaya and Vietnam. It is one of three bombers bought from England before production began at the Government Aircraft Factory at Fisherman's Bend. The plane has the oldest known Rolls Royce Avon engine, being serial number 2.The Canberra is a first-generation jet-powered light bomber which could fly at a higher altitude than previous bombers. This Battalion fought in several actions prior to being captured on 15 February 1942 in Singapore. Inside the frame there is an approx 27mm wide border - green colour. The objects in the frame are:- A certificate from the Shire of Maldon for the service and sacrifice of "Trevor Goldsworthy". There is the King's memorial scroll for the death of "Pte T. W. Goldsworthy" Aust. Military Forces. There is a B & W portrait of VX35497 Pte T.W. Goldsworthy, 2/5 Hygiene section. He is in uniform. The uniform was issued to William Gamaliel Bartlett, Regt No’s 35052 (VX25300) enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 11.6.1940 age 21 years, 2/9th Field Ambulance, taken POW Malaya, discharged from AIF on 12.11.1945 with the rank of Pte. He later enlisted in the CMF on 20.7.1959, unit OCTU 3 TRG GRP and was discharged in 1974 with the rank of WO 2 after 15 years 32 days. Image of gravestone in memory of Lieutenant Albert Sargent VX15290 born on the 3rd of November, 1918 at Wangaratta in Victoria. He was a member of Z Special Unit and involved in Operation RIMAU when he was captured and executed by the Japanese in Malaya on the 7th of July, 1945 during WW2. Operation RIMAU - In September, 1944, 23 British and Australian members of Z Special Unit travelled from Australia by submarine to the outskirts of Singapore Harbour then under Japanese occupation. Service medals ( miniature) awarded to Errol Ivan DREHER R30435 Born 30/4/1926 at Numerkah and died 17/7/2024 at Wangaratta. DREHER enlisted on the 6/5/1946 and served 20 years in the RAN as a Chief Aircraft Artificer (CAA) He served on HMAS Vengeance prior to deployment on the aircraft carrier HMAS Sydney in 1953 during the Korean War.Set of seven miniature metal medals with multi coloured stripped ribbons attached. All mounted on a large metal pin attached at rear. Australian Active Service. Singapore group - Jewish refugees from Vienna, Austria, fled the Nazi occupation in 1938. Settled in Straits Settlements Singapore and Malaya (then British Territory) but arrested in 1939 when WW2 broke out between Germany and Britain. C:\Camp3\Singaporegroup02.JPG. 1940 sent on "Queen Mary" ocean liner converted to troopship to Sydney then by train to Albury, Seymour, Rushworth to nearby constructed Camp 3D compound. a. this photo was taken in the gardens of Raffles Hotel, in Singapore prior to WW2, when the refugee families enjoyed life in safety. b. Ludwig and Olga Meilich, two of the above, photos donated by their nephew Walter Smiley in 1990.Top half. Approximately 6 rows of people of all ages, about 80 in all.
