Folkart was operated by Pamnela Hipwell and was permanently closed Januray 2020. "Folkart has been central to the Warrandyte streetscape since 1975 when it took over from Les Gilholm’s milk bar (see photo below). Eltham Gateway, Sweet D Lites, 820 Main Road, Eltham. Former Burgoyne shop and Post Office, now home to San Antonio Barbershop. Once affectionately known as the Hilltop milk bar, or Burgoyne’s, this is one of the only three remaining early twentieth century village shops in Eltham and as the community’s first post office. In the 1920’s, the post office was run from a tiny 6 by 6 corrugated iron shed at the side of the store. Miss Hunniford, the post mistress, would give you your mail or take your letters to send, as there was no postal delivery service at that time. In an emergency, such as illness, you could send a telegraph for tuppence (around two cents) a word. Later, this was the site of the Eltham’s first telephone exchange. Community events invited the community to contribute their images and memories to the BMI collection, and engage in creative activities. Lou's Cafe c. 1987. In the 1930s and early 40's it was Riches Cafe and Billiards Saloon. Sold to Halligan's, Duggans, Jerry Cowell until 1951 when Luths took over the building as a Car and Tractor agency. Next door was Bennett's Shoe Repair Shop which was later a Stock & Station Agency. Miss Olive Codling was a Foundation Member and a Life Member of the Wodonga Historical Society. Many of her prize-winning photos are held in the Society Collection. She also held a range of roles and committee positions in a wide range of Wodonga community organisations. These included the Horticultural Society, the Wodonga Arts Council, the Wodonga Camera Club and the Wodonga Lapidary Club. These buildings held a variety of businesses over many years. The building on the left operated as a butcher shop, but at times was also a cafe and the site of Whitehouse Motorcycles in the early 2000s. The business on the right at various times operated as "The Tuck Shop", a cafe, a milk bar and grocery shop. For a short while in the late 1930's/early 40's it was run by Sister Hughes after she had conducted the private hospital on the corner of High and Stanley Streets in the 1920's to 30's.This photo collection is significant as it documents how the businesses and buildings in Wodonga have evolved and contributed to community throughout the 20th century.A black and white image of the butcher and tuck shop near St. Augustine's convent, Wodonga.wodonga businesses, high st wodonga

The Bendigo Branch of the Victorian National Fitness Council held its second annual youth rally. The article includes two photos (1) Young women from the Bendigo Teachers' College marching before the rally at the Upper Reserve. They are marching in front of a shop called 'Wanda - Inn Milk Bar'. Some Ithacans on arrival in Melbourne moved to the larger regional country towns and opened food vending businesses. John (Ioannis) Raftopoulos (Fiakas) was one such Ithacan who established himself in Mildura. He opened the Sport Cafe in Langtree Avenue. The Spot was an elegant and sophisticated establishment and as well as serving meals, also served the latest sundaes and cool fountain drinks. By the late 1930s he had also opened a milk bar in Mildura’s Astor Theatre. Raftopoulos was a true entrepreneur and ran a number of business in the Mildura and Red Cliffs. John's father, Efstathios Raftopoulos (Levendis) arrived in Australia in 1895 and John soon followed. John's brother-in-law Dimitrios Vlassopoulos arrived from Ithaca in 1922 and opened the Golden Key Café in Red Cliffs. Dimitrios had previously spent about 10 years in America where he gain knowledge and experience in the food and hospitality business. The Golden Key Café shared similarities with the Spot Sundae ‘Parlor’. Ithacan settlement in Mildura area dates back to the early 1900s. A black and white photograph of the interior of a cafe. There are five waitresses and two waiters; three of the women are behind a counter and the other two are standing beside the tables which are lined up on either side of the restaurant. One of the waiters is at the rear is behind a counter while the other is in the background. The restaurant is adorned with Christmas decorations and potted plants.
