The City of Melbourne issued a License or Licence for Melbourne Tramway and Omnibus Co (MTOCo) drivers (gripmen) or conductors under their Hackney Carriage by-law No. 110. The cost was 5/- or five schillings. This practice ceased during 1917. 1 - License No. 179, was issued to George A Barrett of Port Melbourne who was a tram conductor on the 16/1/1914. Used by the Melbourne Tramway and Omnibus Co. to identify its employees, in this case from Richmond car house or depot. Used until about 1916 when replaced by badges marked for the Tramway Board.Demonstrates the method of identifying cable tram employees.Round pressed brass badge with the letters "M.T&O.Co. Rd 66". Certificate of Appreciation from the Mutual Benefit Society of the Employees of MTOCo to Mr T Edwin Wildie for services rendered to the Society. Dated Feb. 1914. Was signed by the President, Vice President, and secretary but these have faded. Comprises a group photograph of 28 men and at the bottom a portrait photo of Mr Wildie. Includes images of a cable tram set at Brunswick Depot, a horse-drawn Omnibus, the interior of an engine house and the construction of a cable tramway junction. Cable trams operated in Melbourne from 1885 to 1940. Initially by the Melbourne Tramway & Omnibus Co (a private operator) then the "Tramway Board" from 1916 to 1919 until the Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board took over. These four tickets would have been a set of pre-purchased ticket in a lot of eight (8) tickets (1/- worth). Priced 1 1/2d each. On the rear lists the Melbourne CBD lines available for use on. Issued by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board. Demonstrates a Melbourne cable tram ticket issued by the MMTB.Set of four MMMTB 1 1/2d tickets. Have perforation marks on top and bottom. Presented to Australian Tramway & Motor Omnibus Employees Association (ATMOEA) members who were awarded Life Membership by the organisation. Appears to be unused.Demonstrates an ATMOEA life membership badge, that could be worn on a uniform or at a function.Badge on a brass/gold backing with painted enamel on the front. On the central portion of the badge, had the ATMOEA logo, with the words "Vic" with red enamel backing, and on the outer edge of the badge "Aust Tramway & Motor Omnibus Employees Association" with a royal blue background. On the bass of the badge is the word "Life Member" The back of the badge is fitted with a spring retaining clip. There are no manufacturer details. The Union commenced as the Australian Tramway Employees Association in 1910. Changed its name in 1934 to the "Aust Tramway & Motor Omnibus Employees Association" so as to incorporate bus drivers of motor omnibuses. Became part of the Rail Transport Bus Union in 1993. See reference. Union members were issued with badges to indicate their membership. They were permitted to be worn on their uniforms.
