Black and white negative, by Wal Jack, of W2 257 after a collision with a large vehicle. Has part of the front saloon stowed in, footboard and grab handles torn away. Tram has the destination of Spencer St, route 27?. Model of Ballarat tram 26 in SEC green and cream colour scheme. The Modeller has detailed the seats in side the end saloons. Balsa wheels had broken off, repaired with 'O' gauge wheels along with other parts by the Museum's model builder. Tram has the destination of Victoria St.Demonstrates model tram building. Functional object - Conductors (Signal) Bell - JS pattern, John Stephenson
Bell used by the conductor or passengers to signal to the driver - stop, proceed or an emergency stop. The actual bell and part of the striker are missing. The striker has been broken off. The "JS" indicates it was made by John Stephenson of New York who made tramway equipment and the first cable tram saloon cars for Melbourne. Demonstrates a conductors communication or signal bell made for use on tramcars.Part of a brass Conductor Communication Bell, or signal bell, consisting of cast frame, part of the bell striker and bell pull part. Returned to RDHS from Federation Estate Art GalleryPhoto 1 (7009a) - Former "Ringwood Mail" newspaper office, Adelaide Street, 1955, looking along laneway to west. Lane between Bamford's Timber Yard, corner Warrandyte Rd. and Maroondah Highway, and went to Melbourne St, later called Civic Place. Other buildings were Ham's Billiard Saloon, the two-story Renong Chambers, bottom left Jack Orr's clothes hoists and bottom right Horman & Woolhouse plumbers. All demolished for the building of Eastland in the 1960s. The photo shown is a typical example but may not be in the collection. -

Black and white photograph of Freight Car 206 at Preston Workshops. This tram began as one of 10 single truck saloon trams built by J.G. Brill & Co., USA and assembled by Duncan and Fraser, Adelaide. It entered service for the NMETL as tram number 5 on 13/10/1906. It was transferred to MMTB and renumbered as U class tram 206 on 1/8/1922. It was withdrawn from service in 1938 and was converted to a freight car. In November 1947 it was withdrawn from service as a spare freight car after a bad accident and remained in storage until March 1950 when it was scrapped.trams, tramways, freight tram, preston workshops, nmetl, tram 206 -

This book was found with other books from Orbost House. Orbost House, believed to have been established by the Macalister family around the turn of the 20th century was a boarding house in Lochiel Street, Orbost. Nowlan's Library was in the billiards saloon in Nicholson street Orbost and was owned by Lionel H. Nowlan. The joining fee was 1/- and the cost of borrowing was 3d per book. A hard back book with an illustration of a man's face and two large birds hovering above. The book has black binding. It was written by H.J. Saloon chair on the S.S.Casino. Removed for refurbishment to celebrate fifty year anniversary of the ship and the Belfast and Koroit Steam Navigation Company. The ship sank on the 9th July 1932 at Apollo Bay. This chair which had not been reupholstered chair registration 555 was presented to Capt. Thomas Boyd the first Captain of the Casino. The legs were added at some time after the sinking.Wooden chair with decorative carved back. Seat velvet upholstered. Painting - Painting, framed, The Speke, 1891
The ship Speke ran aground on the coast of Phillip Island on the 22nd of February 1906. The ship was painted by Artist Woolston L Barratt in 1891 and hung in the saloon of the Speke. It was given by Captain Tilston to John Cleeland, captain of the rocket rescue team and the painting used to hang in his home Wollomai house on Phillip Island. It was restored by Mal Campbell to fix smoke damage.The Speke was an all steel ship built in Wales in 1891, the second largest 3-masted full-rigged ship in the world. She was delivering wheat to Geelong and confused a bushfire in Cowes for navigation lights. Lou's Cafe c. 1987. In the 1930s and early 40's it was Riches Cafe and Billiards Saloon. Sold to Halligan's, Duggans, Jerry Cowell until 1951 when Luths took over the building as a Car and Tractor agency. Next door was Bennett's Shoe Repair Shop which was later a Stock & Station Agency. Part of a streetscape series done for the Shire of Charlton c. 1987.Colour photograph of a single storey building. Signage on the windows reads Lou's CAFE and on the awning Lou's MILK Bar. Other signs on the windows read Fresh Fruit VEGS, meals, TAKE AWAY FOOD, FISH & CHIPS, HAMBURGERS. Signs above the awning advertise Pauls Streets and Peters ice creams. Two cars parked in front of shop and a man and a woman are standing beside one of the cars. Photograph, Black and White, of the Level Crossing in Epsom Road, Flemington or Ascot Vale showing the overhead arrangement and structures either side of the road to provide power to either the trams or the trains. The small signal box is in the view as well as the interlocked gates. A NMETL saloon tram is crossing the railway lines. Photo late 1919 or 1920. Has the words "VR Tramway Crossing at Epsom Rd showing insulators in tram line and special crossing fitting." The level crossing was electrified on 18-8-1919 and abolished mid 1925 when the underpass was built.
