The gentleman in the photograph is John Black, who with his brother Andrew arrived in Australia from the Greek island of Ithaca some time between 1927 - 28. These Lucky envelopes were part of the Bendigo RSL Sub - Branch fund raising at the Bendigo Show. The Sub - Branch had their own stall. Two widows beside an exhibit of craft work at Legacy House, possibly 1999 or 2000. The widows would complete craft items for sale at the widows stall in badge week and also for competition in the Widows Craft Exhibitions. On the left is Sue Sargent and on the right is Vera Lang. The old Echuca Post Office was built circa 1877, a two-storey stucco building with a clock tower over the entrance, on the north east corner of Hare and Anstruther streets. In the front of the building is a small cream brick kiosk used as a bus stop and as a stall for charity group's to sell produce. On the far northern corner the spire of St.Mary's church can be seen above the roof of the Post Office.The old Echuca Post office is at the northern end of the shopping precinct in Hare street Echuca. The building is a beautiful grand building of the late 1870's which was built as a post office on the ground floor and a residence above. The small kiosk building in front of the post office was used by volunteer organisations to raise money selling cakes etc. at various times of the year.Colour photograph (post card size) of Echuca Post Office looking north. Photos of the Legacy Appeal in 1989 including badge selling and the Army helping out. Three of the photos appeared in the President's Highlights report in 1989. The caption mentions there was an arts and crafts stall run by the widows' clubs in the the City Mall (Bourke St). Also that Hawthorn footballer Peter Curran helped with the badge selling. The Army arrived with a display of vehicles in the city square (corner of Collins and Swanston Sts). Archibold McArthur originally owned 6 acres and produced flowers which were sold at the Victoria Market, and vegetables which were sold at a roadside stall outside his property in Canterbury Road , Forest Hill.Eastside Plants established a plant nursery as p[art of the property in 1979 and later added 'Archies Cafe' in 1987. The Eltham Community Art & Craft Market was a long-standing weekend market in the Eltham area, offering, at first, arts and crafts of many types, made by local residents. It expanded to include produce in later years. Initially run by the Eltham Community Market Stallholders Association Incorporated, it is now run by Diamond Valley Community Support. These newsletters were distributed to market stall holders each month. The widows clubs ran a craft stall outside Legacy house for many years to help with fundraising during Legacy Week. Also the author Patsy Adam-Smith is in one photo. She went on to be a celebrity of the year for Legacy in 1994.
