These are souvenir medals of the Warrnambool Industrial and Art Exhibition of 1896-7. This exhibition organised by a local committee under the chairmanship of the Mayor, Walter Hickford was one of the most important events in Warrnambool's history. It ran for three months and was said to have attracted 70000 visitors. It was held in Liebig Street and utilised both the civic centre buildings and temporary buildings erected for the event. It had several exhibition courts featuring art worksand business exhibition stands, competitions,entertainments and visiting experts in various fields. These medals were made at the exhibition at the stand of Stokes and Son. Visitors to the exhibition were able to get a gold silver or bronze medal made while they watched and the medal was then perforated ready to put on a watch chain or pendant. Thomas Stokes came to Australia in the 1850's and established a successful business in Melbourne manufacturing buttons, medals and tokens. The business was called Stokes and Son following a fire in 1893.These medals are of great significance as a memento of an important event in Warrnambool -The Warrnambool Industrial and Art Exhibition of 1896-7. Medals such as these would have been in the homes of many residents of Warrnambool and district and beyond after 1896..1 This silver circular medal has text around the outer rim and an image of Queen Victoria on the reverse. On the obverse is text and an image of the Warrnambool Exhibition building erected for the occasion. The medal is secured by a red thread , button and clear tape to a piece of card. This opera coat was made for Louisa Jane Cam, nee Rust, born 24/6/1873. Her parents were John Rust born in Hamburg, Germany and Jane Mc Meekin from Port Patrick, Scotland. In 1892 Louisa married John Cam the director of the Hawthorn Brick Company. It is understood Louisa wore the coat to the opening of the first Federal Parliament in the Exhibition Buildings in Melbourne in 1901.This item being an early nineteenth century opera coat has aesthetic interest. It is also important because of its provenance being worn by Louisa Cam at a significant event in Australia's history.A three quarter length Mandarin styled gold threaded brocade, lined coat dress with long sleeves. The fabric is black with gold patterns of leaves and circles. Large circles feature gold, red, yellow, pale and dark blue flower like images surrounded by gold fringes. The yolk section finishes with a small pleat over the flared bottom section. Edging around the neck is black lace. It is understood a fur collar was previously in place. The cuffs of the sleeves are pleated and have a wide frill above the pleating. The lining is pale blue silk . At the end of the sleeves the lining has hand ruched binding. Nil

Military cap dating from 1966, possibly worn by military personnel in West Germany.This cap is significant as an example of military headwear dating to 1960’s West Germany. Olive drab coloured forage or side cap lined with matching colored fabric. Cap has a flap on each side which may be unfolded. Side flaps are joined by by strip of fabric (all one piece), across the front of the cap which when extended, may form a covering for the mouth area. Clothing, cream coloured double layer child's silk cape. Inner cape has 13 cm one piece circular yolk with 7 cm turned over collar. Casing around neck has 4 cm draw string ribbon threaded through. Inner cape is made from one piece of fabric with inverted V shaped insert on LHS extending 40 cm from edge of yoke. Inner cape is fully lined with cotton fabric. Two extra satin lining panels extend from yolk to hem inside both front openings.(7 cm widening to 28 cm at hem). Outer cape is made from one piece of fabric falling 57 cm from the collar. Outer cape is fully lined with cotton fabric with additional satin lining panels inside front openings from neckline to hem ( 8 cm at neck to 30 cm at hem). Both layers have decorative silk embroidery of floral patterns. Outer cape pattern extends down both sides of front opening and continues above the hem line around the cape. The embroidery on the inner cape extends from the lower edges of the front openings and continues above the hem around the cape. Nino Corda was a Geelong based textile designer who worked at various textile mills between 1957 & 2003. He travelled the world in search of the latest fashions and techniques and developed timeless designs that were much loved by Australians. These items are on rotational display at the National Wool Museum’s ‘In the Factory’ exhibition. For many years, Nino also worked as part of the Honorary Staff of the National Wool Museum. His passion for the world of textiles provided energy and knowledge to the visitors and staff of the museum. Although Nino has now retired from his honorary position and has hung up his Australian Tartan vest, these items will continue to serve the community in sharing the stories of Australian Textile design. Textile designers used viewing lenses such as this to see how many threads are within a textile sample. It was important to count correctly, otherwise the enlarged final pattern would be out of alignment. Before compact lenses such as this, specialised glasses were used such as 8039.The viewing lens has a 3 fold design in order to fold up to be compact and easily transportable in a pocket while also working to provide its own stand when unfolded. Rosemary Myers spoke about Lizzie Daley in May 2012. She described the house as having lots of ornaments, and how she enjoyed going thereto buy ribbons and laces for a pair of baby booties she knitted for her school handwork at Melton P S 430. Margaret Nolan's memories of Lizzie: When we were young kids we would go down to visit our cousins, the Myers who lived on the Highway. My great grand mother Mary Luby lived in Reserve road when she came to Melton, she was married here in 1857. Her sister Ann nee Dowling was married to Henri Miers [Myers] in 1867. Her other sister Eliza married William Daley in 1862. He had a Bootmakers shop in the High street. Their daughter Lizzie later turned it into a haberdashery shop. these bottles were found at the old pine plantation near Forest Road Orbost.These various shaped containers are examples of glass containers used in the early 20th century.Seven bottles found at old pine plantation in north of Orbost. 2372.1 is a cylindrical Vegemite jar made of white opal glass. It has a threaded rim and two mould seams. 2372.2 is a brown beef extract jar. 2372.3 is a rounded square white Ponds jar which would have had a metal lid. 2372.4 is a brown Bovril jar and probably had a cork seal. 2372.5 is a clear perfume bottle from Rogers & Gallet Paris. This item was before diesel, electric and battery drilling apparatus were used by farmers, and other trades requiring a portable yet reliable method of drilling holes. As this item is a 3/4 inch hole drill it would be suitable for fencing and providing holes for structural studs. As with all outdoor farm equipment, man power was required (be it the farmer or farm hands). Fitness of the operator was at a high standard but protective gloves were not highly thought of as it was before occupational, health and safety regulations became mandatory over all manual handling activities, be they on rural properties or town/city factories. This period was one where the male ego was at its pinnacle i.e. the harder the tasks the more of a man was required. Hard manual work was not only the "way to go" but also a necessity. Evolution of cheap portable electric/battery powered tools opened up a more efficient method available, especially to those with less muscle strength.This item personifies the rugged environment of the rural workplace. The Kiewa Valley with its main emphasis on farming and grazing provided ample opportunity to use this construction implement. The manufacturer being a Scottish tool company is very significant in the era when this hole maker was in high demand. British steel products were of high grade and had a good record of reliability. The reliability of any tool was a solid factor for farmers and tradesmen in this semi-isolated region (Circa early 1900s) of the Kiewa Valley and its regional area. This factor,although not as crucial, post 1960s, when Asian manufacturers entered the market place and produced cheaper tools and transportation and supplies was more frequent and reliable, the need for the more expensive British made tools diminished considerably. The sweetheart neckline is edged with a fine tulle frill. Bustline panels gathered top and bottom, and joins a peaked midriff panel, 15.5 cm deep at the centre bustline. Mid-length shift dress in light grey-blue. Dress consists of two breast pockets, each with rounded flap closure held in place by two press studs. Dress is fastened down centre with three silver buttons held in place with a metal ring (only two buttons remain). From waist line down, dress is fastened by a hidden zipper and hook and eye. Waist line is pleated and carries two loops on the back, through which a fabric belt (0030.2) is threaded. Two fabric loops on each shoulder may have been used to hold epaulettes or similar. Dress sleeves are rolled up by 40 mm. Collar is notched. Interior label on left side at waist height reads "IYD CLO CO/VIC./8410-66-000-000/SIZE 18/ARMY NO........../NAME............"

This rug was woven in the mid-1990s at the Tascot Templeton Carpet (TTC) mills in Devonport, Tasmania. It was an in-house design. The rug was woven as a one-off design exercise and was given a Golden Thread Award by the Australian Wool Corporation. The design never went into standard stock production and was never released for public sale. This rug has been woven with 100% wool on a 1 metre wide loom. The loom was purchased by TTC from United Carpet Mills of Preston and the rug was woven to demonstrate the capabilities of these looms. This rug is an example of Wilton weaving. Wilton differs from Axminster in that it is usually Loop Pile and 100% wool whereas Axminster is Plush (cut) pile and normally 80/20 wool nylon blend. TTC manufactured primarily high-quality narrow and broad loom, Axminster and Wilton carpets for the domestic and commercial market. They operated from the early 1960s until their closure in 2011. This rug was also on display in the Tascot Templeton head offices before being donated to the National Wool Museum in 2021 by Roger Warn. 3 x 3-meter carpet rug woven in 1-meter wide sections. The pattern repeats 3 times both in the width and the length. Starting from the bottom left corner, a square can be seen within a larger circular shape. These circular shapes connect end on end across the width and length of the rug. 5 Circles make up the length of the rug while 6 circles make up the width. Numerous small shapes encompass the entirety of the rug. These small shapes work together to form many interconnected repeating forms that draw your eye in a new direction every time you look at the rug. Snow shoes were used to move between places on the snow fields at Falls Creek and the Bogong High Plains especially during the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Scheme.Historical: Snow shoes were used on the Bogong High Plains during winter. The body is made of light wood 'bamboo' with a back and front wooden cross bar. Between the front cross bar and toe, blue nylon is tied to form diamonds 'lacing', similarly the back. Between the bars, in the middle is cream coloured rope tied to form a strong basket. A shoe harness made of olive green vinyl to which is clipped brown strong woven material tape with a circular steel loop through which the tape is threaded. There are 3 steel fasteners on 1 side and 2 on the other with a black plastic fastener. At the front between the cream and blue woven baskets there is a gap called the toe hole. White fine cotton short sleeved blouse. The front is made of two pieces with a front opening. Each side has two darts from the waist and are slightly gathered at centre front. The front has a V shaped neckline with a border from the shoulder. The border is made up of three rows of cotton featuring drawn work patterns and embroidered flowers. The back is made of two pieces with a centre seam. The front and back pieces are attached to a casing that is attached to a peplum. The neckline is edged with lace at front and back. The front opening is fastened with three buttons and buttonholes plus three cotton tapes threaded through casings around the neckline and around the waist above the peplum.costume, female daywear, cotton blouse

Clothing. White linen camisole with peplum 8.5 cm deep. Round lace yoke at the front, with a panel for a ribbon insertion. Some evidence exists on the right front, that once there was a pink ribbon - possibly silk, but now there are only a few threads left. The insertion panel continues around the back neck edge. Two panels of three .5 cm tucks run from the neckline to the waist of the centre back. Front opening, with two 1 cm pearl buttons still evident, and a cotton tape and casing at the waistline. ON each side of front opening, a group of five pintucks, 7 cm long run from the waistline toward the bustline.All items belonged to Margaret Ann McLean.costume, female, white linen camisole.

Clothing. Narrow shoulders straps-.8 cm, hold the curved slightly peaked bodice-shaped at both front and back. One dart at each side seam of front. Centre front is lavishly embroidered in a chinese style, with some cut work, some shadow work and silk thread floral embroidery. Neckline is bound with a fine 'rouleau' type binding. Front has a V-shaped panel inserted from the right hemline, and back has an identical panel at left hemline. French side seams, machine stitched. Hemline bound as for neckline.
