The Ballarat Technology Park is located on a 29 hectare site on the Mt Helen campus of Federation University Australia, and was officially launched in February 1995. The Abbotsford convent housed large numbers of Good Shepherd nuns, as well as a number of unmarried mothers and their children. The mothers worked in a large commercial laundry facility. The large chimney in this photo is most probably associated with the laundry. The bush children, exploring an old deserted house, were chased by a spooky-looking creature. They escaped into a cellar under the courtyard. Then Polly Possum found a strange, heavy door in an archway in the cellar wall. Cantlon is widely known for his illustrative paintings of Victorian historic homes, and he wrote and illustrated Homesteads of Victoria 1836-1900 published by Georgian House in 1967. Bontharambo is a homestead located in Wangaratta and was built in 1857-9. This homestead plays a prominent role in the history of Wangaratta and the pastoral history of Victoria. Early use of Crown Land for holiday makers prior to the Great Ocean Road extension, when leaseholders were forced to relinquish their land and houses. Includes a list of the names of occupants at that time. The Blackburn South Post Office was in 1962 housed in a building originally built as a P.O. for the 1956 Olympics games. It was located in the grounds of the M.C.C. and was transported to the Blackburn South site. Demolished c1970s. Information supplied by Stan Hander, 34Drummond Street, Blackburn South. Luigi Gervasoni was born in San Gallo, Lombardy, Italy. He arrived in Australia in 1863 and was part of a co=operative to farm and build the old stone house at Yandoit Creek. Eventually moving to his own property he was a vigneron selling his wine in central Victoria and Melbourne, and exporting to Ireland. Sawbridgeworth, 32 Widford Street Glenroy, was built in 1887 by Arthur Wiseman to help promote the sale of land in Glenroy. It was St. Agnes Church of England Girls Home 1922 to 1964. The Stag was built 1848-1854. John Sanders purchased the land from Atkinson in 1848 and built the building as a licensed premises. Over the years it was also used as a Hotel, boarding house and boarding school. It is still used today as Accommodation and a restaurant.
