Lois Loftus-Hills (1927-2006) and her husband Geoffrey were founding members of the Australian Democrats. Lois was the editor of the national Journal. Lois was trained in the field of dietetics and when working at the CSIRO met Geoffrey. They lived at Lower Plenty and were instrumental in establishing a local Neighbourhood House. One of the jobs of the housewife was to keep her stove-top looking clean and new, and a rich black colour. This was a source of pride amongst house-proud women, and also ensured a more efficient distribution of heat on their stove-tops for cooking. It was however one of the dirtiest jobs in the kitchen, requiring a lot of elbow-grease as well as a good polish paste. Local. Do Drop In was a general store and hall from 1937 until 1955. It also served as a bus terminal up until 1979. The shop, hall and vintage buses were destroyed by fire 4 May 1980. The original holiday house was still occupied until 1982. York on Lilydale now occupies the site of Do Drop In.'Do Drop In' was an important institution in Mt Evelyn for many decades. The four arch railway bridge, known as the Jacksons Creek Viaduct Bridge, spans the Jacksons Creek north of the Sunbury Railway Station. The weir at the base of the bridge was used to dam water as well as ensuring a water supply for the steam trains. The pump house at the base of the bridge was where the water was pumped and then taken to the railway station for the steam engines.This bridge is one of notable four railway bridges along the railway line that are in Sunbury.
