This badge was produced to raise money for those affect by the war in the Geelong and District region. Badges were a popular fundraising option because of their affordable nature making them available to much of the public, while their design made them popular for collecting well into the future. Miss Olive Codling was a Foundation Member and a Life Member of the Wodonga Historical Society. Many of her prize-winning photos are held in the Society Collection. She also held a range of roles and committee positions in a wide range of Wodonga community organisations. These included the Horticultural Society, the Wodonga Arts Council, the Wodonga Camera Club and the Wodonga Lapidary Club. This photo collection is significant as it documents how the businesses and buildings in Wodonga have evolved and contributed to community throughout the 20th century.Wodonga, High Street West Businesses include Mylon Motorways and Pilkington shoes. 153 High Street, Wodonga in 2021is now the location of Gateway Health and other allied Health Services. In 1906 Patrick Mylon started a passenger transport service in the Albury-Wodonga border area with horses and cabs. His son Jack went into business in the late 1920s, and his grandson Bernie joined the firm early in 1970. When Patrick started with the horses and cabs, each cab carried eight passengers and he always had two horses per cab. As the business expanded, Mylons used a range of buses and coaches including Reo, Chev and Bedford vehicles. During more than 100 years if service to the Wodonga region and beyond, Mylon Motorways received many awards for Excellence and tourism. On July 2, 2008 the company, including its 31 buses and 45 staff members were transferred to the Dyson Group. Newspaper Clipping - from The Argus 28 October 1940, titled "Last of Cable Trams / Quiet passing after secret send-off", about the closure of the Bourke St cable tram routes the previous Saturday nights when the trams were withdrawn prior to the schedule time and replaced by buses. Gives details of the last tram, crews etc. Notes the driver of the last Nicholson St tram as J. Peden, conductor A. C. Craven, Mr. M. McSweeney as the bus depot dispatcher, Mr. E. Lang as the first driver and conductor, Mr. J. Lee. Also quotes Mr Bell that the tram tracks would be kept in running order if needed, but new cables would be needed. Rod Atkins advised 11/10/2020: "The bus body is one of the four James Motors of South Melbourne body's first fitted to the group of 12 Thornycroft "J" chassis in 1924-1925 numbered 13 to 24. Then in 1929 they were all transferred to the ADC chassis but four were retained in late thirties to early forties for possible further use. The four bodies were then fitted to the new International K6 chassis in 1943. The vehicle numbers were 19 to 308 16 to 309 24 to 311 and 18 to 312. They were finally disposed of in 1949." The Everard Memorial was officially dedicated on 22 April 2004 by Betty Lynch OAM, daughter of William Everard and sister of Blanche Shallard. Newsletter No. 156 May 2004 THE MT. EVERARD CONNECTION Mt Everard in the Kinglake National Park commemorates William Hugh Everard, State Member for Evelyn and father of our member Blanche Shallard who died some eighteen months ago. Doug and Gwen Orford represented the Society at the unveiling of an interpretive sign at Mt Everard. Doug has written this account of the event on 22nd April. We all travelled to Kinglake and met near the Fire Station where we were picked up by two buses provided by Parks Victoria to take us to the top of Mt Everard. There we enjoyed morning tea (needed to as we from·the first bus had to walk the last hill when the bus broke down) while we waited for the official party to arrive. While waiting we had a look at the open four sided interpretive feature donated by Mrs Betty Lynch OAM (sister of Blanche) in memory of their father Bill Everard who was the State Member for the area for many years and in recognition of Kinglake National Park's 75th birthday. The information display describes the Blue Ant Butterfly, the Coconut Ant and the Swamp Pea, all of which are indigenous to the area. The Chief Executive of Parks Victoria welcomed everyone on this warm windy day after which Betty explained how the blue ant butterfly cohabited with the ants and survived. The swamp pea is described as a rare indigenous plant to the area. She also spoke of her father's interest in the area.
