Vehicle - HR Holden hearse
This hearse was produced by General Motors in 1966 as a Station Wagon. After major modifications were carried out to extend the body to enable the coffin to be placed into the back of the vehicle. Interestingly to note that the vehicle, on a delivery to Traralgon, was involved in an accident in the Haunted Hills near Moe, the next town to Moe. This hearse spent most of its life servicing the Traralgon Township and was subsequently purchased and restored and sold to the museum. The vehicle has special significance in that it is an extremely well presented Holden Hearse that was formally modified after manufacture .There were very few Holden Hearses used in Australia and good examples are difficult to find.Black extended body 3 door hearse.Registration plate STIFHR1966 hearse, vehicle, holden, car -

From the Britannia Mine (Ballarat) Candle remnants from early Ballarat mines are quite rare..1) White/cream candle remnant. Candle mold seams are evident. Stored in green pharmaceutical tin with screw lid. (?) Found when removing for filling motor spaces Camp Street. .2) white candle remnant from the Britannia Mine at Cambrian Hill held in a 'Barker Cake Container; tin. Functional object - Motor Cycle Lamp, Joseph Lucas Ltd, Birmingham, England, 1922
This lamp was produced in 1922 as a lighting mechanism for a motor cycle. It is a Lucas lamp, with the trade name 'Chieftain'. The firm of Joseph Lucas Industries was established in 1860 in England, initially making scoops, buckets and plant holders. In 1875 it began making lamps for ships and after 1902 lamps and other components for motorised vehicles. Today, after merging with a North American company, it is a maker of components for both the automotive and the aerospace industries. This item is retained as an example of motor cycle lighting that would have been used locally in the 1920s.This is a metal lamp with a round base, a cylindrical body and a rounded lighting mechanism enclosed in glass. There is a screw lid on top of the oil container, a mechanism for attaching the lamp to the vehicle and two small round glass buttons on either side of the lighting area. The lamp has traces of silver colouring but is very rusty. Built by the Victorian Railways it was originally used on the postal motor service on the Wangaratta to Whitfield narrow gauge line, for the cartage of small goods. it was part of the consist that operated the last service on that line in 1953. In 1960, it was purchased from the Victorian Railways, restored and taken to Belgrave to assist in the restoration of the Puffing Billy Railway. In the mid 1960's it was classified "NGA 1".
