The file contains a number of original files provenanced to the Judd family including a subdivision brochure of the Park Hill Estate (1916) that includes a map of the subdivision, an early photo of the ten-roomed house. Other primary sources include a seven page photocopy (& transcript) of notes on early Kew by Thomas Judd Jnr (1950). An undated letter accompanying the information refers to Miss Ina Balaam, the last descendant of the family to live in the house. The file also includes a photocopy of the obituary of Thomas Judd and a newspaper article/clipping from 1972, which includes a short history of the house and a photograph. This archive file contains primary sources and publications relating to the amalgamation. The earliest item in the file is a newspaper article/clipping from the Eastern Standard (1986) recording a request from Hawthorn Council to Kew Council to consider amalgamating. The file also includes other newspaper articles/cuttings (some undated) reporting on opposition to the amalgamation. An interesting item in the file is a photocopy of a coloured digital photograph of the members of the last Kew Council. [The original still has to be discovered]. Following the death of the Dorothy Rogers, a donation of material relating to the historian and her family was made to the Historical Society by her sons. The minutes of the Society record that they were originally placed with the City of Kew for safekeeping. The Society's minutes record gradual discoveries of items from the collection, including this scrapbook, by later researchers. Leather bound scrapbook, part of the Dorthy Rogers Collection, embossed in gilt with the initials "G.S. Melbourne" on the cover. The folding of the pages allows for reading from the font or back. The exact dates in which the Kew Floral, Industrial and Arts Society flourished is unclear. We do know however that it was part of a more widespread series of competitions involving 'juveniles' from church Sunday schools in the 1880s and 1890s. The newspaper article which is part of this collection of documents, while undated, states that the exhibition grew out of the activities of the Congregational Church Sunday School in Walpole Street, Kew (Vic)The items in the Amy Grigg collection, including awards, items of appliqué and embroideries etc reveal much about the artistic and social activities in a suburb like Kew in the late 1880s.Five certificates awarded to Amy Grigg of Pakington Street Kew in competition for prizes awarded by the Society. The certificates are stored in the 'Kew Floral, Indutrial & Art Society' archive file with other items relating to Amy Watson (née Grigg) the mother of Joy Ivory. The latter was ‘dated’ at Kew. The five awards given by the Society were for achievement in baking, writing and sewing. A later hand has added the date 1889 to these certificates. The oldest item is a letter from the National Trust Victoria announcing their two-year garden study and seeking information on gardens in Kew. Mavis Rolley, Secretary of the Society, made handwritten notes in response, which are kept in the file. She refers to: the pear trees planted by William Oswin in c. 1845 near what is now the Burke Road Bridge (she notes that a search for the trees at the time of the construction of the Eastern Freeway was unsuccessful), a camellia planted by the Dannocks near the corner of Derby and High Street, a c.1876 pine tree in Field Place, Henty Court, an 1875 Moreton Bay fig at Tarring, Ruyton, a Moreton Bay fig at Roxeth, Trinity Grammar, an 1840s oak tree and a 120-year old olive tree at Fairholme, Barry Street, 1870 pine trees at D’Estaville, Barry Street, trees at Turinville, Barnard Grove, dating to 1846, pine trees dating from 1845-6 on the Willsmere Farm, red gums in Victoria Park, pine trees in the Cemetery dating from the 1860s, trees in the Alexandra Gardens and at Kew Primary School, palm trees at La Verna, Sackville Street dating from the 1890s, the trees and gardens at Ross House (Charleville), and the trees at Merridale, Sackville Street which date from the 1880s, a magnolia at Lalla Rookh. These dates are probably highly contestable.
