Book - WAVERLEY PRIZE 1878 TWENTY FOUR VOLUMES, 1874
Waverley Novels Pocket Edition. Volumes 1 -12. Set of Novels awarded to William Fraser as the Waverley Prize 1878 at the Sandhurst Corporate High School Volume 1 has a Dark green book plate inserted inside the front cover. Book plate edged in gold and details printed in gold. First page has an imprint of the Bookseller - R Souter Sandhurst. The books are covered with a red, blue and orange marbled pattern. This patterned paper is also inside the front and front covers. The spine and corners are trimmed with dark green leather. Published by Adam and Charles Black 1873. The Waverley Novels were a series of more than two dozen historical novels published by Sir Walter Scott between 1814 and 1832. The Waverley Novels are a long series of novels by Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832). Written on backing sheet, "Methodist Church on site at Cnr. Melbourne St. and Whitehorse Rd. On its removal to Greenwood Ave. Mr. J.B. McAlpin built shops on this site - land (Dimmey's) including his own estate agency." One photograph claimed church was moved to Greenwood Ave in 1916. Photograph taken in 1904. Another photograph states that the photograph is of the Methodist Church and Sunday School. Inserted in the sleeve of one of the photographs are two small postcard photographs that state they are, "Methodist Church in Main Street, Ringwood opposite railway station. Booklet, The Story of the First Century of the Life of "Zion" Congregational Church, Sebastopol, 1961, 1961
The former "Zion" Congregational Church was on the corner of Walker Street and Beverin Street in Sebastopol. Its origins began as 'Zion" Welsh Independent Church in Albert Street, Sebastopol. The Uniting Church in Australia was inaugurated in June 1977, at which time the Sebastopol Methodist Church joined with the Zion Congregational Church on Walker Street, Sebastopol and became Sebastopol Uniting Church. The block to the south of the church was purchased in 1982, the occupying house demolished and the area cleared and later sealed for parking. In 1984 the interior of the church was renovated and plans were drawn up for further additions and alterations to the Sunday school, which were carried out in 1989, adding a kitchen and toilet built by Jeff Menhennett & SonsWhite soft covered booklet of 20 pages with blue printing. Newspaper Clipping from The Courier, October 1971, titled "Tram 42 Retires as a Church Kindergarten", with a photo of tram No. 42 being manoeuvred into the Zion Congregational Church yard in Sebastopol on a low loader, with the church in the background. Notes that tram was delivered by SEC workmen and that the foundations had been prepared for several weeks prior to delivery. People mentioned in the story are Rev Syd Munn, C. Merrett, SEC I.
