Memorabilia - One pound Note, not known
The pound note was donated along with a one dollar note and several silver coins by Society member Joyce SutoPound was legal tender until 1966 when decimal currency replaced it with a gold coloured two dollar coinGreen minted stamp on white background of treated paper. The front of the note has a picture of Queen Elizabeth 2nd, the Australian Coat of Arms and 'One Pound' stamped on it. The back of the note has 4 circles, one with 'One pound', one with picture of Charles Sturt 1795 - 1869, one with Hamilton Hume 1797 - 1873 and one with James Cook Endeavour. Demonstrates how the SEC used enamel signs to convey instructions to passengers or to confirm the advice of the conductor and how enamel signs were made.Enamel sign, black capital letters and lines on an off-white background, titled "Entering or leaving this tram on the wrong side is prohibited". Marks on rear from the enamelling process. The front of the sign has been covered with varnish. See also Reg Item 7118 for a later sign. Mirrabooka means Southern Cross. The Melbourne Movie Club was established for those interested in Moving Pictures and all its branches. 'A place to go to spend a few leisure hours, a select dance, parties, picnics, amusements, to learn the art of picture acting and make up, to take part in the Company's productions, dramatic art, to have a jolly good time, etc.' The Melbourne Movie Club has a spacious premises at 184 Exhibition Street, Melbourne, with a floor space of 10,000 square feet, where scenes and sets were erected for the use of Club Members. The Club had full moving picture producing equipment such as big light plant, stage effects, scenery, and cameras. The Melbourne Movie Club saw themselves ad the nursery and basis for a National Film Industry. .1) The secretary was Burnard W. Morey (AICA), the director was L. Extract Hansard, Legislative Council, 2/10/1968, titled "Ballarat and Bendigo Tramways - Proposed Abandonment". Sir Percy Byrnes moved that the proposed abandonment by the SEC be not made. Pages 471 to 494 reports on the speach by Sir Percy, I.A. Swinburne who seconded the motion, V.O. Dickie who opposed the motion for the Government. Others who spoke were , F. J. Granter, F.S. Grimwade, J.M. Tripovich. The Motion was supported by the Country and Labor parties who had the numbers in the upper house. Premier Town Awards are awarded by the Victorian State Government to regional communities that best protect and enhance their environment. The award recognizes success in litter prevention, waste management and environmental projects and community group and individual efforts are taken into account in this regard, Warrnambool has won the award three times (1958, 1979-82 and 1988-1991). These items are of interest as examples of the souvenirs distributed to celebrate Warrnambool’s being awarded the title of Premier Town of Victoria in the 1970s and the late 1980s. Bruce Rogers, the recipient of the brass plaque and Director of the Premier Town Campaign in 1979-82 was a Warrnambool businessman, City Councillor (1965-9) and a Lawn bowls player of note. Three items- 1. Five Premier Town 1988-1991 paper stickers – circular with black printing and blue and green colouring in the Premier Town design 2. Premier Town 1979-82 shield-shaped cloth badge with black printing and blue and green stitching of Premier Town design (in plastic folder accompanied by paper backing with name of supplier) 3. On Saturday September 2, 2023, Russell Yeoman led a group of 22 society members and interested others on a walk following trhe bounadries of the original Shillingalw farm. Commencing at the corner of Panther Place and Library Place, we proceeded up to Shillinglaw Cafe then the Shillinglaw trees at the former Eltham Shire Office site then along Main Road to the fire station then throughh St Laurence Lane and uinder the railway line , along Diamond Street then return via the Diamond Creek trail behind Andrew Park. The actual farm boundary went past the creek and further up the hill. The original farm comprised lot 90 of Holloway’s 1851 subdivision of Little Eltham. Its area was 30 acres lying east of the Diamond Creek and north of Henry Street.
