The photograph shows a picture of Evans Street Sunbury taken from the T intersection at Macedon Street and looking south. When the photograph was taken it was one of Sunbury's main residential areas. Since the 1980s the houses in the image have been demolished and replaced with commercial development.- Over the years Evans Street has undergone much change from being a residential strip to being the main commercial hub in Sunbury.– An enlarged photograph of a streetscape with a row of trees growing along the footpath and a number of weatherboard Victorian style double fronted cottages. These are the original wrought iron gates which served as the entrance to St. Andrews Uniting Church, formerly St.Andrews Presbyterian Church. They were erected there in 1922 and were made at H.V.McKay's Sunshine Harvester foundry, at Sunshine. H.V McKay was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Sunbury. Originally the gates opened onto Stawell Street, which ran at an angle between O'Shanassy and Barkly Streets. Apart from a small area leading to the Memorial Hall the rest of Stawell Street has been incorporated in the Village Green in Sunbury.The gates were restored and erected on their original site in 2000. The Allied Victory Medal, 1919
The medal is colloquially known as 'Wilfred' within the armed forces. It was decided at the end of WWI that each of the allies should each issue their own bronze victory medal with a similar design, similar equivalent wording and identical ribbon. The British medal was designed by W. McMillan. The front depicts a winged classical figure representing victory. Approximately 5.7 million victory medals were issued, making it more exclusive than the British War Medal. The recipient's service number, rank, name and unit was impressed on the rim.Gold coloured Bronze medal depicting a winged figure of victory on the front and the words THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1919-1919 surrounded by a laurel wreath. The home was known as 'Montalto'. It was built by Andreas Hansen in 1888. It was purchased by Dr John Box in 1913 and was demolished in the 1950s to make way for Sythney Court. The property was surrounded by extensive grounds and abutted Surrey Gardens. The damaged building in the photograph is the former Diggers Rest Hotel which was built in on that site in 1854 It was a popular place during the 1970s Sunbury Pop Festivals as it was the closest hotel to the Pop Festival site. It was partly destroyed by a suspicious fire on 30th October 2008, which left the walls and chimney intact but the roof caved in. Since then there have been moves by the local community to either rebuild and reopen the venue or to demolish it.The Diggers Rest has been one of the few early surviving hotels that were built along the former Mount Alexander Road, now Calder Highway, during the 1850s gold rush years.This a non-digital coloured photograph of a double storey hotel building, which has been damaged by fire. In partnership with Arthritis Victoria (incorporating Osteoporosis Victoria), the Western Regional Health Service conducted a seminar on musculoskeletal health for the Vietnamese community. The event was held on the 18th of March, 2003 at the Western Region Health Centre in Braybrook. Speakers included Phong Nguyen (President of the Vietnamese Community), Vicki Andrew (Aged Care and Disability Services Coordinator), and Dr Peter Wong (Rheumatologist). A Q & A session was also held with a panel of health professionals. Facilitated by Trinh Nguyen, the panel included Dr Hoang Tran (GP), Sharon Miller (Dietician), Lily Radcliff (Physiotherapist), and Jane Hawke (Physical Activities officer at Arthritis Victoria). A Vietnamese dance troupe provided entertainment during the lunch break. The day ended with a "Tai Chi for Arthritis" workshop and a strength training class. A similar photo, which has been cropped, appears on page 18 of the Vol 16 Issue 2, Winter 2003 edition of the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria's quarterly magazine, Update. The white painted cast iron gates are at the front entrance to St. Andrews Uniting Church and front onto the former Stawell Street in Sunbury. They were originally manufactured at the H.V.McKay Harvester Works in Sunshine. Over the years the gates fell into disrepair and were eventually restored and reinstalled at the original site.The church gates are of historical importance in Sunbury as a result of H.V.McKay's connection with the former Presbyterian Church. He is buried in the Sunbury Cemetery and also lived at Rupertswood from 1923 until his death in 1926.A coloured photograph of red brick church and the double cast iron gates, flanked by a single gate on each side at the front entrance.
