The trophy is currently raced during a Club Marine race and is awarded to the winner of Division 1 on PHD handicap. The race is held on the same day as the Secours Trophy for Division 2 and the Allee Cup for Division 3. Eli Edwards was one of the early members of the Port Melbourne Yacht Club. The donor is a descendant of Henry Bayles Ford, who was the light house keeper at Cape Otway for thirty years (1838-1878). Bayles' wife, Mary Ann had been governess for the Latrobe family. The original tea set was a gift to their daughter Agatha,, and the remaining cup and saucer has been passed down to her descendants.Porcelain cup and saucer, originally part of a tea set. This item is from a collection donated by descendants of John Francis Turner of Wodonga. Mr. Turner was born on 6 June 1885. He completed all of his schooling at Scotts Boarding School in Albury, New South Wales. On leaving school, he was employed at Dalgety’s, Albury as an auctioneer. In 1924 John was promoted to Manager of the Wodonga Branch of Dalgety’s. On 15/03/1900 he married Beatrice Neal (born 7/12/1887 and died 7/2/1953) from Collingwood, Victoria. They had 4 daughters – Francis (Nancy), Heather, Jessie and Mary. In 1920, the family moved From Albury to Wodonga, purchasing their family home “Locherbie” at 169 High Street, Wodonga. "Locherbie" still stands in Wodonga in 2022. The collection contains items used by the Turner family during their life in Wodonga. The designation "Nippon porcelain" refers to porcelain made in Japan for export to the west, and stamped with the word Nippon on their bases. This practice began in 1891 in response to the U.S. McKinley Tariff Act, which forbade the import of items that weren't "plainly marked, stamped, branded, or labelled in legible English words." Unfortunately, many reproduction or fake pieces were also produced. In 1921 "Nippon" was no longer accepted by U.S. Customs Agents as the correct name of origin so from then on, imported Japanese porcelain was supposed to be marked "Japan". This information helps us to establish provenance of this item as after 1921.This item comes from a collection used by a prominent citizen of Wodonga. It is also an excellent example of Japanese porcelain of the early 20th century.A small teacup and saucer with a design of a couple in a garden. The design is repeated on the saucer. Presented to W. Forbes Raymond (Billy) William Forbes 1934-2008 Born Nyah West, Vic and died Echuca, Vic, Billy was a painter and decorator in the 1950s before joining the Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade in the 1960s. In the 1970s he was employed at the Melbourne Metropolitan Board of Works until his retirement in 1991. In the 1930s he was raised in Nyah West then moved to Wallan in the 1940s, Collingwood/Carlton in the 1950s, Reservoir in 1970 then Torrumbarry, Vic from the 1990s. Billy undertook National Service in the 1950s and played football with the Carlton Royals in the 1950s and 1960s. Billy was presented with this Winner's Trophy for the 1954 Eltham Gift. The Eltham Gift was a running race similar to many other 'Gift' races around the the Melbourne suburbs and country towns. And that is where the mystery lies as press reports of the day have a completely different person winning the Eltham Gift in 1954. This is a unique example of a hand drawn plane table sheet produced in the first year of the Australian Survey Corps by original members of the Corps. Roseblade and Lynch 5 Dec 1915. Of interest is the documented times that it took to create the original field sheet. Also of interest is the fact that this field sheet that was used to create the actual SYDNEY map sheet was contoured, many map sheets produced up until now were purely planimetric and lacked contouring that was needed for military use. Four volume set awarded to Catharine S Procter in 1879 as Dux of Ballarat College (girls school). Catharine was 16 when she received this prize. During 1877 - 1891 Ballarat College accepted enrolments from female students. The school holds the original register of this period and notes that Catharine Procter entered the school in 1878 when she was 15.
