The Railway and Tramway Map of Melbourne and Suburbs With Tram Timetables lists existing Cable Tram Services before the entire network was electrified. By 1917 the tramways system was divided into regions including: the Melbourne Cable Tram Service; Prahran - Malvern Electric Trams; Hawthorn Electric Trams; Melbourne, Brunswick and Coburg Electric Trams; and Brighton Beach Electric Trams. The old Outer Circle railway line is marked as ending in Deepdene, with the remainder of the line to Fairfield marked as 'Unused'. The Kew tram along High Street in 1917 ended at the Harp Junction. Four page (two sheets of A4 - double sided) on gold paper, printed as a Tour Booking form for a tour of Melbourne tram lines, titled "W3 661 Tram tour - Melbourne Revisited" for 27/5/1989. The tram was on loan at the time to "Yappa Tours" from the BTPS. See first and second paragraphs for details of the tram being in Melbourne. Also contained on pages 1 and 2 are notes on W3 class trams, their history and dispersal. Pages 2, 3 and 4 give details of the tour and the booking form. Photo shows the first build of the upgraded Y class design classified Y1 Class 610. Four of these Trams were built in the MMTB Preston Workshops in 1930, 610 to 613. There was one solitary Y Class tram 469. They were built with the intention of evaluating one-man operation. Due to their higher cost and Union resentment, the MMTB resorted to the proven W Class tram design. It is fitted with a route number box. The tram entered service 26/3/1930. These tram tickets were issued by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board which operated from 1919 to 1983 and the train ticket was issued by the Victorian Railways. The Williamstown Short Road Ferry operated from 1931 to 1974 from Port Melbourne to Williamstown and was replaced by the West Gate Bridge which opened in 1978. This was the third ferry service in this area, with the first one commencing in 1873. These tickets have social significance as examples of the tickets used by Melbourne transport in the 1950s. They will be useful for display.These are five paper transport tickets (Melbourne tram & train and Williamstown ferry). The tram tickets are coloured orange and pink, the ferry ticket is green and the train ticket (made of light cardboard) is orange and yellow. The two orange tram tickets, (cost threepence) have an advertisement for Stamina Trousers on the back. They were purchased on the same day. The other tram ticket is a City Section ticket costing fivepence. The ferry ticket cost threepence and the train ticket for travel between Jolimont and Seaholme cost three shillings and fivepence.
