Negative (120) of a cable tram grip car and saloon car 565 outside the Nicholson St Winding house tram stop, with several passengers walking from the tram, the conductor attending to the "dolly" for the Gertrude Street cable so the gripmen can line it up with grip and the grip man looking down. In the image are adverts for Col. W. de Basil's Covent Garden show at Her Majesty's Theatre, Fosters Lager, Hoyts De Luxe Bourke St a Richard Greene film. Set of two newspaper cuttings, March 1953 regarding the roster, - one-man tram dispute in Geelong - 1953. Both cuttings pasted onto off white paper. and Newspaper name and date type on the top. .1 - "Geelong Trams May Stop After Sunday" - date obscured due to silver fish damage, some time between the 20th and the 29th - regarding a potential strike of Geelong tram crews due to grievances with the roster, walking times. Notes union had been re-registered at the time , but did not have an award. Quotes Mr. T. Farr, Mr. C. McDonald and that there were 85 men in the traffic branch. .2 - "Hearing Tram Dispute tomorrow" - dated 31st March 1953 - dispute to be heard by Chief Conciliation Commissioner, Mr, Mooney tomorrow. Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, Wed. 22/9/1971, pages 7, 8 and 49,50. Pages 7 and 8 - see Reg. Item 1846, Pieces of Tram History - "Ballarat Tramways Sample Tickets". Pages 49 and 50 - "Last Tram". Two photos of crews and identities involved in the running of the Last tram the previous Sunday. Photos feature: Cr N.F. Donald, Mayor of Sebastopol, handing the tram keys over to Cr. J. Chisholm , at the town boundary. Others featured in the first photo, Mr. L. J. Denmead, L. Walker, Mrs. Chisholm and Mrs Donald. The Second photo feature: Eddie Lake, Alec Turnbull, Joe Smerdon and Herb Knight. Under photos has a Railways of Australia, RoA, advertisement titled "The Age of superpower". Set of three items concerning the restoration project for Horse Tram No. 1, by the Ballarat Vintage Tramway, 1986. 2804.1 - Letter on BTPS Letterhead, dated 8/4/1986, standard letter, seeking sponsorship or financial assistance for the project. Drafted for a Trust. Signed by the President, Frank Hanrahan. 2804.2 - 12 page report comb bound, with clear plastic cover, preprinted cover featuring horse tram No. 7 and light card rear back cover, dark blue in colour. Report gives an introduction, notes on the Ballarat Horse tram service, photos, notes on the BTPS, the project itself, costings, a elevation drawing of the horse tram, operation, sponsorship details, details of the Board, costs and times, and work program and expected cash flow. 2nd copy added 6/2/2005. 2804.2 - ditto, but stapled in top right hand corner. Interview titled "Woman at War - by Catherine Duncan - Interviews with women in Industry No. 1 - interviews Mrs. Hammond a Melbourne Tram Conductress", dated 5/1943. ABC Shortwave Division. An announcer introduces Catherine Duncan, who then introduces Nita Hammond who featured in a poster on the tram called "She's Helping You". Her husband is serving overseas, prior to becoming a conductress, was just an ordinary housewife, describes the training, learning on the job to collect fares, making friends son the job, was stationed at Head Office, American servicemen, finishing up after the war.Demonstrates the work of the ABC during 1943 and has a close association with Catherine Duncan and Nita Hammond.Radio Transcript or script, 7 foolscap pages, duplicated. An electrified tram route from Melbourne along High Street replaced an original Horse Tram that terminated at the Kew Cemetery. This new tram only reached the bridge over the Outer Circle railway at the Harp Junction. Photocopy of an article in the State Electricity Commission of Victoria Magazine, Contact, Vol 1, No. 4, Feb 1937 titled "Electricity Supply for Buninyong" and "Ballarat Trams in Picturesque Setting". Each item had a thin strip of paper attached by staple to the top left hand corner, giving the Vol. No. details. The first story features the provision of power to the town of Buninyong on 14/1/2937. The supply was provided by a 6.6kV line running from Sebastopol. The second story with a photo of a line up of 7 trams in the Gardens following the annual outing of the Pleasant Street State School trip to the Botanical Gardens and special trams in general. SEC Tram 17 and a former bus used as a food vendor stand, that has finished up in the front of S.E. Dickins Pty Ltd. (Grocers) store 1/10/1949. The tram derailed at the intersection of Sturt and Grenville St. collided with the bus and pushed it into the front of the store. Many people standing around the incident, including two trammies in front of the tram. Thought to be a Ballarat Courier Photograph. Wal Jack's caption advises the Bedford van was a doughnut kitchen. 1020.1 - added 3/06/2006 - small newspaper cutting with the same photo and a caption "While the driver was picking up lunch at Ashkar's pie shop, his tram ploughed into Dickin's grocery, on the present site of Norwich Plaza". Probably from The Courier, and date unknown. 1020.3 - as for 1020, from the Jack Richardson Collection with Wal Jack comments on rear. Comments on rear - see btm1020i4.
