A print from a glass negative that has been reused to document an item of equipment used on a farm. The equipment is vehicular and designed to be hauled behind another form of transport, either equine or mechanical. On the vehicle, there is a motor at the rear. The main part of the vehicle is a barrel that might have been used to hold liquid or solids. The original photograph would appear to be a scene adjacent to a beach. (1) The plaque which commemorates the seventy-fifth anniversary of the opening of the College in 1966. It was designed by Joseph Swift and unveiled by T.H. Kneen on 26 October 1969 (on reverse.) It reads, "Burnley College of Horticulture 1891-1996." Hangs in the Administration Building. Appears as an illustration in, "Green Grows Our Garden," A.P. Winzenried p 102. Attached to the wall on the inside of the entrance to the Administration Building on the left as you walk in.(1) 2 black and white photographs of a plaque which commemorates the seventy-fifth anniversary of the opening of the College in 1966. The pumpkin in this photograph was an award winner and was grown by Fred Mundy Snr. It weighed 194 lbs (approx. 88 kgs). Pumpkins were grown widely on Orbost farms and used to feed pigs. There was usually a competition for the heaviest or biggest pumpkin at the annual Orbost agricultural Show.This photograph is associated with the history of pumpkin growing in the Orbost district.A small black / white photograph of man with three children sitting in a hollowed out pumpkin in water. Albert Geal, a builder found good quality clay at Tunstall. In 1903 Geal Brothers of Nunawading began making agricultural pipes for orchardists, then moved on to make bricks and tiles. The Geals pottery was on 11 acres at the corner of Springvale Road and Miton Street. This photograph shows an early Orbost Agricultural Show committee. Included in the photograph are: Phil Nixon; John Johnston; Percy Morris; Harry Richardson; Arthur Saunders; Archie Rodwell; Geo. Nixon; J. Warren; John Draffin; W. Fisher; D.R. Norris; Paul Hocking; Waller; JasHossack; Jim Cameron; John Cameron. The first meeting to form an Agricultural society in Orbost was convened by the then Orbost Progress Association and held in the Mechanics Hall on Saturday, 10th October 1891. Its first show was held on 3rd March 1904...on a site alongside the Bonang Road where the present Golf Club stands. It is currently held at the Recreation Reserve at Newmerella. (Ref: In Times Gone By-Deborah Hall) This item is associated with the Orbost Agricultural Society 's Annual Show which has been a major event in Orbost for over a century. Agricultural shows are an important part of cultural life in small country towns and the Orbost Show is an integral part of Orbost 's agricultural history. For more than 70 years farmers and other agricultural businesses had access to Government programs and assistance from this corporation. In 2014 the Rural Finance Corporation’s business and assets were transferred to the Bendigo and Adelaide BankThis book is kept as a library copy because its contents contain several references to Warrnambool and district and the Rural Finance Corporation was well-known to local people, particularly those in the agricultural sector and it was appreciated by so many in the district.This is a hard cover book of 197 pages. It has a multi-coloured front cover showing a child on a tractor with three adults nearby and four colour photographs on the back cover. The dust cover has similar images. The book has a message from the Treasurer, a foreword, seven chapters of text, a timeline, references and an index. Churchill Island was discovered by Lieut. James Grant in 1801 and he planted the first wheat crop in Victoria there. The Cairn was erected to commemmorate this by the Victorian Farmer's Union. The Minister of Agriculture The Hon. G. L. Chandler CMG.
