Heather Jean served in the Army (VF514388) enlisting on, 06/11/1943 in East Brighton, VIC before being discharged from duties with the AUSTRALIAN WOMENS ARMY as a Army Non-Commissioned Gunner (GNR) on 11/09/1946. Heather Jean CAMERON was not a prisoner of war. Heather Cameron was awarded the Australia Service Medal 1939-1946 and the War Medal 1939-1945. 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Regimental CollectionPhotograph
‘A’ Squadron 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles conducted a parade at Buna Barracks, Albury on Sunday 1 May 1988 to mark the 103rd Anniversary of the formation of the Victorian Mounted Rifles and the 40th Anniversary of the linking of the 8th (Indi), 13th (Gippsland) and 20th (Victorian Mounted Rifles) Light Horse Regiments to form the 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles. Colonel G K Howard, Director of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps was the Reviewing Officer. The Pipes and Drums of the 5th/6th Battalion Royal Victorian Regiment provided the music for the occasion. The plaque is dedicated in appreciation to the Port of Melbourne from the Chartered Institute of Transport (Malaysia). The plaque is made of dark blue metal sheeting, engraved with white writing. At the top centre of the plaque is the large gold-plated seal of the Charted Institute of Transport, Malaysia which is dominated by a Pegasus. The plaque is backed by a wooden board painted back, which is hinged onto a red felt case. This photograph of Council works originated in the City of Kew Engineers Department as a record of works undertaken. It was given to the collection by a Mrs Fisher in 1998.Well provenanced photograph of Council-funded public works in Kew during the Great Depression. This is a copy of a letter to Sir John Leahy in 1986 inviting him to speak at a Legacy luncheon, it was then used as a draft in 1990 for another invitation, this time to Senator Jocelyn Newman, Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs. Note that women were now being invited to speak at Tuesday luncheons. Legatees met regularly and had guest speakers to entertain and inform on different subjects at their Tuesday Luncheons. This document was from a file of information about guest speakers (see also 00812-00822 and 00829-00837). The Programme Committee was responsible for organising the speakers. A record that the speakers at Legacy functions were from very different walks of life and the subjects spoken about were many and varied. This draft to Senator Jocelyn Newman shows that from 1990 women were invited to speak at Legacy Luncheons.
