Destination roll that was used in Malvern Depot trams, Melbourne, until the late 1960's. Roll on linen, with white letters on black background. Has stencilled words "STOP" on top and bottom of rolls, stencilled miniature destination on rear to assist driver to locate the destination. Letters approx. 140 high. Roll consists of an unpainted section 535 long at top and 360 long unpainted section at base. Painted section approx. 7.2m long. Roll has oil and dirt stains in the middle portion, but the last three destinations are very worn with the black paint in a deteriorated condition. Block of 43 No. 3d Newspaper package Tickets. Was originally a block of 50 two part printed ticket, using red ink on 60gsm cream paper with the top half part having a part gummed back, stapled with a single staple at the top onto a cardboard sheet. The ticket butt has the form number "TYE 3-17". The top portion was to be affixed to the newspaper package to be carried. It has the name of the organisation (SECV), "Newspaper Package Ticket 3d", conditions of carriage and ticket number, prefixed with the letter B. The first seven tickets have been removed or used. All the lower tickets have been torn from the top half of the block, it would appear in they were damaged. The original owner was Louis Kolling.An antique thick rectangular photograph album made of dark tan leather with an elaborate embossed floral and leaf design on the front and back covers. The brass clasp on the side is in working order but is broken. It contains 24 thick double sided cardboard pages which have sepia family photographs inserted. There are several missing photographs. Each picture has the name of the photographic studio printed at the bottom of it. Some photos have names written beneath them in blue writing. Each page has beautiful hand painted coloured flowers and leaves decorating them. At the front is a highly coloured decorative floral title page with the word - Album. On the back of this page is a blank Index with 100 spaces to write the names of those in the photographs. The whole album as quite worn and damaged with several inscriptions.'On the front right side endpaper is handwritten on the textured page in blue ink 'Mrs Kelling, a present from Mrs Bond'. Painted ornately in colourful paints is 'Martha Bond' There is a strip of paper included on this page handwritten in blue biro 'Donated posthumously by Louis Kolling, a first cousin and neighbour of Edmund L. There is a brass plaque that states: THIS PLAQUE IS IN MEMORY OF DORA CHAPMAN daughter of William and Estelle Chapman CALLED HOME WHILE PLAYING THE ORGAN ON THE OCCASION OF THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SILVAN CHURCH. SEPTEMBER, 27TH 1936 DORA WAS A SISTER TO MR ERNEST CHAPMAN On another plaque it states: THIS ORGAN WAS A WEDDING PRESENT TO ERN AND BERYL CHAPMAN AND WAS DONATED TO MONT DE LANCEY IN THE YEAR 1994 BY MAVIS, BOB, LES AND ALBERT CHAPMAN The organ was a present from Mr Ernest Chapman and his bride on the occasion of their wedding on October 26th 1927. The organ was made in Meriden Connecticut USA by Wilcox and White in 1885. A date inside the organ indicates that it was last tuned June 16th 1900. A highly decorated, delicate ornate carved wooden pump organ with a round mirror set back into the front panel. It has a sheet music rest or shelf with an opening lid to store sheet music inside the cupboard. There are two side shelves with five knobs on each at the front. It has a keyboard with thirteen stops below. Next to the key stops above the keyboard is gold lettering with 'Wilcox & White Meriden. Connecticut. USA.There are two brass patterned pump foot pedals below: the left one has 'WILCOX' stamped on it, the right pedal has '& WHITE' stamped on it and the metal is damaged from use. There are two carved levers underneath the keyboard: the left one has a sticker saying "Grand Organ", the right one's sticker says, "Knee Swell". There is no stool.The brass covered left foot pump pedal has 'WHITE' stamped on it, the right pedal has '......' stamped on it. A very damaged, stained red antique hardcover book for girls with the title printed in gold lettering in the middle of the front cover. There is a gold outlined drawing of a girl sitting looking out of a window. There are red flowers and green leaves decorating the cover. A badly damaged red fabric hardcover book Pals Annual for the Boys of Australasia with a black, red and white lined illustration on the front cover in a large square of a cowboy cracking a whip on a farm. The covers are detached from the pages which are tanned, some torn and with foxing on the edges. There are a year's worth of magazines included date from Volume 1 No.1 Sat August 26 1922 to Volume 3 No. 34 Saturday April 14 1923. Price 3d. each. Initially listed as T J Connelly's Tin shop, this premises on the corner of High and Forest Street, expanded to include all items of ironmongery. By 1878 they were advertising gas stoves for sale and installation.The item is a hard cover book recording factory orders of T.J. Connolly, Ironmongers, Sandhurst. The book has an alphabetical index at the front which records customer names and number/s of their order. Each handwritten page records the order number, date, name and goods supplied. The hard cardboard cover has "F O BOOK" added to it with black ink. The front cover has considerable wearing to the bottom middle including water damage. The mottled front and back covers have considerable wear. The red spine covering is worn, and the cover is starting to come away from the pages at the top. The book includes the date range of October 1890 to August 1894. All pages have been used. This item is part of the Margaret Roberts Collection. This DVD is a digital reproduction of a VHS produced by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria, to show the pristine state of the Kiewa River and Valley post the completion of the Kiewa Hydro Electricity Scheme (Circa 1950s), The late 1970s on wards was the beginning of deeper social scrutineering by pro environmental groups such as the Australian Wilderness Society (1976) and the Greens (political Party), before, during and after the construction phases of any man made structures in forest/bush areas which may or could damage or adversely affect the natural flora and fauna of sites. This promotional VHS, which was produced in the 1990s, was to project that unlike the Tasmanian State Electricity Commission (Franklin Dam issue), the Victorian State Electricity Commission acted in a way to protect the environment to the maximum level possible. With the passage of time since, and the issue of the global push to minimise carbon pollution, and as an alternative to coal fired power stations, the use of hydro electricity can now be seen as a highly efficient alternative to "coal powered" electricity. This item provids a snap shot in time (1990) when the Kiewa Valley was still relatively under populated and holiday houses owned by city bound workers was still relatively insignificant. As more and more holiday makers retire to a small but friendly region(Kiewa Valley and Mount Beauty) the increase in visitor numbers will affect the local rural bush scene more and more. The changes that will occur (in time) can be measured against the scenes presented in this video. The additional resources provided by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria to "alpine bush" fire control and management, together with an ongoing educational scheme for school children in learning about what constitutes the Alpine country's unique environment, are a very important offshoot, benefitting to both the communities within the Kiewa Valley and regional Victoria. The Schimmelpenninck factory stood in Wageningen until it finally closed in 2000. The Schimmelpenninck brand started in 1924 when two brothers and an uncle merged their cigar factories into one company. It was called after Rutger Jan Schimmelpenninck, raadspensionaris (kind of a prime minister) of the Batavian Republic in 1805-1806. The tobacco industry has a long history in this town; in the 17th century one fifth of all arable land around the town was used for tobacco. Originally used in pipes and as snuff, the popularity of cigars in the 19th century led to a large expansion of the Dutch tobacco industry. The Schimmelpenninck factory was at its largest just before World war II, 700 employees produced 32 million cigars. Wageningen was heavily damaged during operation Market Garden in 1944, the whole population was evacuated and most of the machines of the Schimmelpenninck factory were stolen or destroyed. After the war, consumption of cigars was much reduced and the firm slowly merged with others. Eventually they became part of Rothmans.This box and the brand name Schimmelpenninck represent several periods of Dutch history between the time of the Republic and the post WWII years. Cigar smoking was very popular in the Netherlands pre-war but less so in the second half of the 20th century partly due to a growing awareness of tobacco's carciogenic properties.Large flat wooden box designed to hold 78 cigars. On the left side of this gun white paint indicates the adjustable dose lever. It is a sliding scale from 10 to 0 cubic centimetres of liquid (now typical measure in millilitres). It also has a small and straight tip suggesting this gun was typically used for dosing Lambs as opposed to ewes. The manual adjuster helped to minimise cases of overdosing which can be fatal for livestock while the additional curvature helped to ensure the liquid reached the desired location within the sheep’s mouth. This desired location is on the left rear of the sheep’s tongue (from the sheep’s point of view) as this is where the oesophagus is located. The main risks are that drench may be delivered into the lungs via the trachea or “windpipe”, which can also prove fatal. The opening to the trachea which leads to the lungs is in the middle of the back of the throat. Another risk is the throat can also be damaged due to rough handling.Silver metal with black finishing drench gun. Straight tip on gun protrudes from the body which feature a thin squeezable trigger to the front of the body. The main bulk, which the trigger is squeezed towards has silver cylinder on top of the handle where tubing carrying the liquid drench into the gun attaches. The 1919 bushfire was the worst the area suffered. The fire struck on Saturday afternoon on the 15th February. It destroyed the station at Lavers Hill and Crowes, departmental residences at Lavers Hill and Weeaproinah, the overhead bridges at Beech Forest and Wimba, and damaged the track at various points along the line so that two locomotives became temporarily marooned at Beech Forest.. By the following Tuesday a daily fire relief train had begun operation. By the following Sunday a special train loaded with army tents travelled through to Lavers Hill and deposited most of its consignment there because little remained of this sizeable settlement. An outsider would have had difficulty in picking the place. The letters of the Lavers Hill station nameboard had been burnt although the metal letters survived, and one of the local wags had rearranged them to read "LIARS HELL". By the 1920s water trains were being used to help fight fires, a simple NQR open wagon loaded with the standard 1500 litre square iron water tank.B/W. 1965 fire at the Bendigo Railway Station A dull explosion in the refreshment room about 1:30 p.m. touched off the blaze, which quickly spread and burnt out the station in less than an hour. Just before the explosion a train carrying more than 200 Melbourne-bound holiday makers pulled out of the station. Scores of railways employees in other parts of the station did not realise the refreshment room was on fire until a signal box attendant gave the alarm. Early estimates place damage at more than £100,000. Quick work by station staff saved many thousands of pounds worth of equipment before flames engulfed the building from end to end. At the height of the blaze, a Bendigo fire brigade Station Officer, Vin Lapsley, fell 18 feet – and miraculously landed on his feet – after being overcome by smoke while directing a hose from a ladder on to the roof. Illawarra was the name given to the Geelong office of the Association for the Blind. These physical photographs were unfortunately too damaged to be retained in the collection, so a digital image was taken. 1. 1977 - Unnamed people undertaking carpentry at Illawarra. 2. 1970 to1980's - The Illawarra building in Pakington Street, Newtown. 3. 1970 to 1980's - A seascape mural with raised sea animals and corals was presented by the Embroiders Guild for the benefit of AFB members. An unknown female is feeling the mural. 4. 1970 to 1980's - A fragrance garden at Illawarra completely maintained by the Geelong Pelargonium Society, enables AFB members to enjoy the plants by their distinctive perfumes of lemon, lime, nutmeg and peppermint. This photograph was taken in the Mount Pilot Chiltern National Park. It was taken during a search for the tiger quoll conducted by a team of volunteers from the Wooragee Landcare Group. The tiger quoll is also known as the spotted-tail quoll and is found in the national park. The 2003 bushfires caused worry for the safety of the tiger quoll, hence the need for a search for it. Mount Pilot Chiltern National Park is located near Chiltern in Victoria. It's most notable landmarks include Mt Pilot and Woolshed Falls. It also has many mines from the Gold Rush in the late 1800s. It is home to much flora and fauna, including the tiger quoll. The park is also home to the box-ironbark forest that once was present in most of north-eastern Victoria. The park is a large tourist destination as in there are many bushwalks and other attractions for visitors. In 2003, bushfires raged through Mount Pilot National Park and destroyed much of the environment. Some of this damage can be seen in the burnt trees in the picture. This photograph represents the work that goes into protecting a important species like the tiger quoll and there has been much work done to preserve it. This photograph was taken when the Wooragee Landcare group went to ensure the survival of this species, highlighting how the tiger quoll is being protected. This photograph also demonstrates the significance of Mount Pilot Chiltern National Park. The park has many special flora and fauna that can only be found in this area. For example, the box-ironbark forest and the tiger quoll. The forest used to stretch over much of north-eastern Victoria and is therefore reminiscent of what that area of Victoria was once like. With the completion of the Kiewa Hydroelectric Scheme in 1959, Falls Creek began to change from being a construction site into an alpine tourism resort. In 1964 the Frying Pan Inn group consisting of Bill Bridgford, Geoff Henke and L G Morrison acquired a license to construct a restaurant. It opened in time for the 1965 season, but the Frying Pan venue was damaged by fire in 1967. Renovations took until 1973 when the Frying Pan Inn reopened. It is now a popular Apres Ski location in the heart of Falls Creek Village. The Frying Pan has always been the central hub of The Bowl and at different times in the past has been the location of the Old Race Hut and also the Ski School Meeting Point. This flyer promotes three benefits of the Frying Pan Inn - its Backpackers' Accommodation, a great location and its nightlife which included live touring bands, comedy nights and Happy Hour.
