On 7 March 1964 the Former Ballarat Gaol was opened to the public resulting in a large turnout. Following the complete closure of the St Kilda - Brighton Electric street railway (tramway) in 1959, the Brighton St Kilda Bus lines operated a service under a contract with the Victorian Railways with a joint ticketting arrangement. These tickets are weekly tickets for various locations along the former tramway. Those tickets available for Melbourne have the conditions of travel on the rear. The two vertical stripes indicated that the ticket was available to pass through the gates at Flinders St or Spencer St, while the large cross indicated to a ticket checker that the ticket was not available beyond St Kilda station or to pass through a set of gates. All printed on a off white card. Photocopies of old photos from John McPhee of Conron Grange, Whittlesea. Conron Grange was established by Robert and Mary Ann Armstrong in 1855 as part of the Wills Estate, they were tenant farmers to Wills, Mary Ann named the first house Conron Grange meaning "Pretty place with full barns". Robert was killed falling from a horse in 1863 leaving Mary-Ann with children aged 7, 5, 3, 2, and a baby aged 8 weeks. Mary Ann married James Johnston in 1867. Conron Grange remained in the Johnston family until 1938 when John McPhee's parents bought it, it then remained in the McPhee name until John sold it in 2003. These photographs of RASvy personnel from the Army Survey Regiment undertaking regimental training lack any annotation that could identify names, dates and locations. The training was possibly conducted at Balcombe and Dromana, located on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. There is no explanation on the meaning of the annotation on back of the last photograph.This is a set of photographs of Army Survey Regiment personnel undertaking regimental training in the 1960s. All eight photographs were printed on photographic paper and are part of the Army Survey Regiment’s Collection.
