Simpson was founded in 1853 by Alfred M. Simpson. It was a manufacturer of household appliances based in Adelaide, Australia. Resusci Anne was used for teaching both emergency workers and members of the general public. Developed by Asmund S. CWA of Victoria was a popular widely known organisation throughout Australia. The CWA aimed to improve health welfare, and education for women and children living in the country.Each town / area in the Kiewa Valley had an active CWA. Made from shellac in the 1940s until 1948, then made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Single is 45 rpm, 12 inch is 33 and a third rev per minute, (LP) is long playing = 'album'. Late 1950s introduction of stereo phonic sound on commercial discs. His Masters Voice (HMV) is a British Record Compamny created in 1901. In 1961 EMI converted the HMV label into an exclusive classical music label. HMV has a logo of a dog listening to music.The record collection is understood to have been held by a local school in the Kiewa Valley possibly Mt Beauty or Bogong primary schools.Flat black disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove starting at the outside edge. The Tawonga hall was used for community events eg. Dances, Balls and Debutante Balls. The dance Program was displayed for the Musicians and Dancers/Guests to be ready to dance when the music started. Traditional Ballroom dances include the Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango and Quickstep. Latin Ballroom dances include the Cha Cha, Rumba, JiveHandmade and used by residences of Tawonga and the Kiewa Valley. This bell was used by the public to ring encouragement to participants competing in the Kangaroo Hoppet. The Kangaroo Hoppet has its origins in the Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club's 21 km Australian Birkebeiner, first held in 1979 at Falls Creek. In 1991 the first Kangaroo Hoppet of 42 km was conducted and became part of the Worldloppet being the first and, at the time, the only one in the southern hemisphere. It continues (2024) to be held on the fourth Saturday in August. Students from Mt Beauty Secondary College produced this set of 3 DVDs re the development of AGL's Bogong Power Development 2007-2009. This was an addition to the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme built by the SECV in the 1950s. The information covers many aspects of the Development which is of interest as well as being educational for the students. The request re the SECV Adit Shaft was to assist with the information board beside the shaft on the Gorges Walk on the West Kiewa River. DVDs were a digital means of passing on information to an audience and enabled multiple copies to be made. The Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme is in the Kiewa Valley producing clean energy for Victoria. The Bogong Power Development increased the production of electricity in line with more clean energy and gave locals employment and students an insight into its construction and issues. Dairy farmers kept a journal to record their transactions and business on the farm. John Creamer' daughter, Mary Cardwell has her father's journal covering the years 1916 to 1942. Mark Grealy digitised the journal for KVHS to preserve the contents and to make it available to the public at the PRO as an item of significance. DVDs have been replaced by USB sticks as technology advances.The journal was kept by local dairy farmer John Creamer, who farmed at Gundowring in the Kiewa Valley. It consists of names of local people and is representative of the business (produce and life) on the dairy farm at the time. Photos were digitized (instead of printed) onto CDs for preservation, easy storage and enabling multiple copies.These photos are a record of the early days of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme including the town of Mt Beauty in the late 1940s to early 1950s Bronwyn Gray inherited these photos of Mt Beauty and the construction of the KHES. Her uncle Ewan Stebbins puchased a piece of furniture from a garage sale in Boston Rd., Torquay in 1981. The developed film were photos of Mt Beauty and surrounding area. He was an SEC employee and knew the area well.Case is hard plastic, black on the back and clear on the front. As more and more holiday makers retire to a small but friendly region(Kiewa Valley and Mount Beauty) the increase in visitor numbers will affect the local rural bush scene more and more. The changes that will occur (in time) can be measured against the scenes presented in this video. This photo was a loving memento of a young man, possibly kept by his girl friend or even his mother. Perhaps he was leaving home to go to work or even to war. The locks of blonde hair tied with apricot coloured ribbons probably belonged to a young lady or a child.This is of social significance. It is pre digital cameras, pre colour photos. This book was used in the first school in Mt Beauty only started in 1948/1949 this would have been one of the first books used in the school. Also as a state school book it is also significant to the Victorian State school system. There could be a lot of these books in other towns in the state, therefore it may not be just found in Mt Beauty. This item is historically significance as it shows what sort of books were used for that period. It is socially significant as the Mt Beauty school was new in this period therefore shows what the students were using. This item was used in Mount Beauty Primary School as part of a teacher's curriculum. The fact that it was in a rural area, Kiewa Valley did present a slightly different learning atmosphere than in the larger towns and cities. The majority of parents within the Kiewa Valley, had slight reservations of the "high and mighty" attitude of some city dwellers and the effectiveness of city bred teachers was how to overcome these ingrained mores. The mentioning of European nations and lifestyles was to the pupils in the infant schools far more like "fairyland" than the realism that they experienced on the "land". However at this age level fantasy was more important than reality. Australian fantasy tales e.g. Blinky Bill (circa 1930s) introduced main characters that infants could identify, especially in rural schools.This item is a green coloured hard backed book containing 384 double sided pages. This is a milk bottle from the local dairy in Kiewa. It is an old style bottle in imperial measure(ended 1974). This has good historical value, as milk is no longer made in bottles and we do not use imperial measurements anymore. This item is significance for historic reasons, shows local dairy items used. There are not many bottles from this local dairy from this period, and is it is in good condition. . Social significance, shows what items local families used. Research significance. This bamboo fishing rod was used in the mid to late 1900's and demonstrates that local production of recreational fishing poles was at a high level and their demand was high. Imported recreational sporting goods from either the United Kingdom, the United States of America or Asia countries was due to the larger lead up times from these suppliers and the greater import costs from slower ocean supply ships. It was only after World War II that the trade influx from other countries has supplied cheaper goods. This recreational fishing pole is highly significant to the Kiewa Valley as it demonstrates that recreational fishing has been evolved from the need to supply a balanced diet by the early pioneer families of fish from the major Kiewa rivers. The ability of the Kiewa Valley rivers to provide a good fishing environment (high protein diet) for both early indigenous families and early pioneers was the important food source that provided for a balanced diet and the higher level of nutritious development of both body and mind. This two piece wooden fishing Rod is made from bamboo shafts or poles, one length thicker than the other. The smaller diameter shaft is the top end and fits into the longer thicker shaft at a stainless steel tube end.The smaller shaft has a stainless steel reinforcement ring where both shafts fit together. At the bottom end of the thick shaft is a black rubber "stopper" or "foot". There are two stainless steel rings, each with a reel holding "bulge" which allows for the the reel's "prongs" to be secured. Skiing was first done at Falls Creek with the building of the towns of Bogong and Mt Beauty. European workers to the Hydro scheme thought that Falls Creek would make a good skiing village. The first ski lodge being opened in 1947. These skiis would have been used in those first seasons of Falls Creek and used by the first skiers of the time from 1945 onwards.These skiis are historically and socially significant, as they would have been one of the first type of skiis used at Falls Creek, one of Victoria first ski resorts, and used by the pioneers of skiing in Victoria. This item has good interpretive capacity as it shows the style of skiis that were used in the 1940's and they are a good comparative item against modern skiis. These trousers are from the Light brigade, and therefore would have an interesting history and research value. If this item was attached to other items connected to the wars,WW1, WW2, it could good interpretive history. Unfortunately we do not know who they belonged to, but since they were donated to the UC op shop it may be a local person in the Kiewa Valley. Jan 2013 - We have just found out these trousers are infact from the German Army from WW1 and would have been brought back home by one of local soldiers who were in the light horse, which a few men from Tawonga served in.If this item was donated by a local person, this would make it very signfigant due to attached social history about that person. Therefore significance would be, historic, re light brigade history, and the German Army, since we now know these are German Army pants. Research value as above. All of which is valuable for research on these topics. There are only two of these dresses in the collection of the KVSH, and therefore would be very rare.
