Uniform - CAP, PEAKED
Peaked uniform cap worn by members of the Luftwaffe Flak Group Pattern is NCO pattern dated 1939. Note refers to Waffenfabre which translates to Weapons Factory.Predominately black peaked hat. Top portion black felt with red edging and emblem of silver eagle carrying a Swaztika on front. Middle portion is black cotton material band, 5 cm wide with emblem of laurel wreath in silver and wings coming out each side. A blue, silver and red button in middle. Peak is black leather on outside and cream plastic on inside. Black buckled chin strap on bottom broken from stud on right side. Inside lined with orange material with brown leather lining on rim. Earle Christmas Grafton Page served at Prime Minister 7-26 April 1939. The Prime Ministers Avenue is a collection of bronze bust portraits of the Prime Ministers of Australia, located at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens in Ballarat, Victoria. The Prime Ministers' portraits are commissioned after the incumbent term of each Prime Minister by the City of Ballarat. The City of Ballarat has taken responsibility for commissioning the busts after funds set aside by politician Richard Armstrong Crouch were exhausted in 2014. Crouch originally donate money to pay for six busts, the first of which was unveiled in 1940. The collection of prime ministers' busts are unique in Australia, representing the only sculptural portrait collection of all past Australian Prime Ministers. The dinner on Saturday 4 November 1939 was held to celebrate Brigadier Savige's appointment to Command the 17th Infantry Brigade, 6th Division, 2nd AIF. The menu is included and the order of service with speeches by Sir John Gellibrand and a response by Stan Savige. A copy of both are also in the archive. There are five quotes through menu that sum up common sentiments of Stan Savige. Including 'Leave it to me and my little playmate'; 'This is the tamest fight I've seen - let's liven it up'; 'The only "experience" is trust in God then trial and error.' Savige's subsequent exploits in WWII are detailed in Chapter 4 of 'There goes a man' by W.B. Russell, which chronicles not only battles fought but also the politics which blighted his command until the end of the war. The Shire of Grenville offices in Linton were built n in 1939, and replaced the original Shire Hall which was built in the 1860s. At the time the offices were built, Linton was the headquarters of the Shire of Grenville.
