This bed pan was used in the past for patients in hospitals and other places where there were bedridden people. Bed pans are still used in these circumstances but they are now made of materials that are more easily sterilized. This item has no known local provenance but it is an interesting example of hospital equipment used in the past and will be useful for display. This is a spherical-shaped white china bowl with a pointed end and with the opening partly covered at the smaller end. It has a china handle at the top section. There are three drainage holes at the bottom of the smaller end. Inside the bowl at the top section there is black printing. This is the 1979 Annual Report for Lyndoch Home and Hospital for the Aged, Warrnambool. It contains lists of Board Members, a President’s Report, a sketch of a proposed new building, financial reports, photographs and a list of Life Governors. Lyndoch Home for the Aged was established in 1952 and has developed with a wide range of facilities for the aged since that date. The original Lyndoch property near the mouth of the river Hopkins was owned by a Melbourne tea merchant, George Rolfe, who bought the land when there were only on the site a couple of cottages and a larger building which had been a school, Warrnambool Grammar, run by Henry Kemmis. Rolfe acquired the land in the 1870s and named the property Lyndoch after the town in the Barossa Valley where he had lived. He owned Lyndoch for 44 years and it was his stepdaughter, Florence Lake who built in the 1920s the bungalow known as Lyndoch which forms the original building of the Lyndoch Home for the Aged. Today the facility is called Lyndoch Living.This report is kept for the benefit of researchers wanting details of the history of Lyndoch over the past thirty or forty years.This is a booklet with a cardboard buff-coloured cover. The series of seven photographs highlight examples of vandalism within the town centre precinct. Most of the vandalism occurred on public buildings. The toilet block was demolished in the late 1990's to make way for further expansion of the retail shopping centre in Sunbury.A coloured photograph of the Sunbury Comfort Station which was erected on a section of public land in Evans Street between the post office and Sunbury Shopping Square. A letter sent to the Secretary of the trustees of the Bentleigh Recreation Reserve, from Lucy Wood, for the Bentleigh Soldier's Comfort League requesting the use of the Burgess Pavilion for the Leagues meetings. The Bentleigh Soldier’s Comforts League is but one example of many other organisations that made use of the pavilion. After the League’s inaugural meeting a letter was sent to the Trustees of the Recreation Preserve Bentleigh requesting the use of the pavilion to hold their meetings. The objects of the Bentleigh Soldier’s Comforts League were: 1. To provide comforts for Bentleigh boys on active duty 2. To ensure a suitable public welcome upon their return 3. To visit the sick and wounded ones at the Military hospitals A committee of local ladies formed a committee, An amount of 2s was allotted to each worker who endeavored by personal effort to increase that sum. A Gymkhana, in association with the Equestrienne Club, was held to raise funds to help the return soldiers and to send Xmas boxes to the soldiers on active duty abroad. Lucy Wood (1872 - 1956) was the wife of William Howard Wood (1868 - 1947). William and Lucy lived in Jasper Road opposite the recreational reserve. These badges were produced in 1917 to provide funds for the Lady Mayoress’ Fund during World War One.
