Set of 12 coloured views of Ballarat printed with six photos on either side of a folded strip of paper glued within an embossed paper folder. Published by Nucolorvue Productions Vic., titled "A Souvenir of Beautiful Ballarat". In 1940: "Kew Council decided ... to give wallets as mementoes to members of the Second A.I.F. who enlist from the municipality. The selection of the type of wallets to be given was left to the Mayor (Councillor H. F. Mogg)." (The Argus, 21 Feb 1940, p.11). In the event, this wallet like others were predated to 1939 on the front.This item contains two parts: a letter from the City of Kew to Pte Martin and a wallet with which he was presented. The dark brown leather wallet is embossed on the front with the seal of the City of Kew and a citation. The interior of the wallet contains a steel mirror. A 'Birmal' model tennis racquet manufactuerd by Birmingham Aluminium Casting (1903) Co. Ltd. Has open throat and wood handle wrapped with leather, and with leather end wrap. Nickel plated skim milk and cream separator. Splits into six pieces; some pieces are believed to be missing. Two pieces are cylindrical and have long spouts that curve downwards at the ends. Conical shaped piece which goes in centre and has hole through the middle (This piece has removable brass screw). Long straight rod with wooden handle and small, threaded section at other end. Rounded, circular rubber band, probably used as seal. Large round pot with thin flanged rim, seated on raised base edges. Tap with fitting on one side. Round piece with three evenly spaced legs. both sides slightly domed - fits into upper separator piece.On the brass nut of the conical shaped piece is engraved "unscrew" with an arrow adjacent. "10516-C" with another arrow and oval shaped trademark with lines inside. The Breeden family came to Surrey Hills in 1905, first to Guildford Road, then Middlesex Road where Horrie Breeden lived as a boy. He sometimes used to help with milking at the adjoining Kenneally's dairy in Highfield Road. Sometimes he and his brother drove the cows from there to Schneider's property near Florence Road on the way to Surrey Hills Primary School. The cows would graze here until the boys took them back after school. At other times he would deliver milk from the Croydon Road dairy (Isherwood's or Bovill's) to St Joseph's Boys Home before school. Horrie became an apprentice in woodwork / carpentry at Vine's timber yard before serving in World War 1. Horrie's father died in 1919 and in the same year he bought 3 cows and established his own dairy on his mother's property on the corner of Goodwood Street and Boisdale Road. In the 1920s Horrie built the first house in Goodwood Street. He went on to build others in the street including his own at No 7 Goodwood Street. He did all the joinery and internal fittings for this. [Oral testimony: Horrie Breeden to Jocelyn Hall in 1979.] In the first half of the 20th century there were many local dairies in Surrey Hills and Mont Albert. Milk bottles such as this one that include the name of the producer or retailer are historically significant as they represent the period in Surrey Hills' history before milk production was centralised. A glass milk bottle of the style typical between the 1920s and 1940s. Embossed around base: "ONE PINT IMPERIAL". Has a heavy lip on top. the bottle was designed to be sealed with a circular cardboard wad. These bottles may have been in use in the 1940's or earlier. Cordial drinks came in bottles bought at a local grocery store. The shape of the bottles changed as did the stopper or seal. Bottles were recycled remaining the property of the manufacturer - 1. O.T. Ltd., Australia and 2. Lemos Australia in these samples. It appears these bottles may have the remains of a soft drink or cordial which is now dark in colour. Two vintage glass bottles: 1. A clear glass bottle with an embossed decorative leaf pattern around the neck. It has a rusted metal cap. 2. An embossed diagonal square patterned clear glass bottle with a rusted screw top lid. It has an oval shape on the front where the paper label was glued; there are the remains of a label.1. 'This bottle is the property of O.T. Ltd.' 2. The Raywood Borough was created on 17 January 1865 and was united into Marong Shire on 1 October 1915. In 1994 . In 1994 the City of Greater Bendigo was created from the amalgamation of the former City of Bendigo with the Borough of Eaglehawk, Shire of Strathfieldsaye, Shire of Huntly and parts of the Rural City of Marong and Shire of McIvor. The first local government authority for Marong was the Marong Road District (an early form of single-purpose local government), which was proclaimed on 19 August 1860. Its boundary was altered twice in 1862 and on 12 December 1864 it was re designated as a Shire. It absorbed Raywood Borough in 1915, and was proclaimed a Rural City in 1990. On 2 December 1994, with the creation of Greater Bendigo City Council, it was abolished through the amalgamation which took place between Bendigo City, Eaglehawk Borough, Huntly Shire, part of McIvor Shire, part of Metcalfe Shire and Strathfieldsaye Shire to form the City of Greater Bendigo.
