A slight train at the back hemline, and two V shaped flaps-one either side of the back opening, which probably accommodated bussell-like padding. The design of this pair (RN 758 & 759) is based on Thonet’s No. 18 chair, which was originally produced in 1876 by Thonet, and is still one of the best-selling designs for café and restaurant owners. It is elegant, sophisticated and durable. The label notes the design as “AUS MASSIV GEBOGENEM HOLZE vorm” which translates to “solid curved sandals shape”, a good description for the back of the chair. The chairs have marks, paper labels and symbols on them that show that the maker was Harnisch & Co., Neuschler (also called Banská Bystrica) Furniture Factory in Neuschol (Beszterczebanya), Hungary, privileged makers for the Imperial and Royal Austrian-Hungarian Empire 1867 – 1918. Bentwood chairs are made by a process of wetting wood in water, bending it into curved shapes, then allowing it to dry so that the shape becomes permanent. This process originated by Michael Thonet, who had been given the right to bend wood into desired curves by the Austrian Courts in 1842. In 1856 he was granted a 13 year patent to manufacture chairs and table legs of bent wood treated by steam or boiling water. In 1859 his company Gebruder Thonet produced his original design. Thonet’s early designs also featured hand carved or laminated wooden seats. His Model No. 14 produced in the 1850’s, was his most popular design. After Michael’s death in 1871 the family went on designing and producing chairs. The No. 18 chair was produced in 1876, one of a group of chars with back inserts consisting of curves and loops of bentwood. These bentwood chairs are believed to be associated with the either the original Warrnambool Town Hall or the Toc H Group in Warrnambool. The Warrnambool Town Hall played a significant role in the both the local government and the social events of local and district areas. The Orchid Tables were on display as part of the Ten Years of Dowel Jones exhibition at the National Wool Museum in 2024. The exhibition label reads: Sitting just outside this exhibition in the National Wool Museum is a 1910 Axminster Jacquard Carpet Loom. This loom was operating at Brintons factory in Geelong from 1960 to 1975, and then at the Melbourne College of Textiles, until it was donated to the museum. In the 1990's the museum commissioned an exclusive pattern called the Manor House Rug. Based on earlier designs from Brintons UK Persian Rug Archive Library, the museum continues to make this rug through the expertise of Loom Technician Michael Farquhar. The Manor House Rug features a central medallion with floral pattern. Working with illustrator Beci Orpin, and referencing Margaret MacDonald & Angair's book 'Orchids of the Anglesea District', we identified regional orchids. By a process of removal and addition, the original floral medallion was replaced with local species as decorative motif. Ten Year of Dowel Jones presents three altered Manor House Rugs, each with different orchids tufted in wool and placed in the centre of each rug. The rugs have been attached by cotton thread to three table frames at different heights to create the Orchid Tables.Three tables consisting of powder coated steel frames, with a woven carpet top. The table tops are made from wool with a jute backing, and feature a red, green, blue, black and cream floral design with an orchid in the centre. The bodice is of a style from the Victorian Era and so provides a good example of women's clothing from that time. Although it appears to have been made at a later time the lace possibly came from an earlier time period. It is of historic interest as it was amongst the belongings of the donor's Great Aunts who were both dressmakers at the original Terang & District Co-Op which was established in 1908.The item is of significance socially as an example of women's clothing in the Victorian era.A short, waist-length bodice most likely made as a performance costume. It is representative of a Victorian bodice style though the lacing used indicates that it would not have been worn in those times due to its revealing design. Flexible metal stays provide shape to the bodice at the front and back. Sleeves are elbow length and lined with cream fabric. The bodice has a lace collar and the sleeves are trimmed with the same lace. Small gold coloured beads are stitched to the flower centres of the lace pattern. The burgundy coloured satin has an embossed floral pattern. The lace is of interest as it is from an older time period and being beaded would be especially sought after. This photograph frame with its decorative floral and Greek patterned boarder was typical of the early 1900's when photography was in the hands of the professional artist. It was in a period before the "instant" photo and required a dark room and processing liquids for development. It was therefor in a time when photographs were "shot" only at important events be they family or public occasions.This photograph frame holds and protects, part of a very significant occasion, the 90th birthday photograph of the matriarch of one of the founding families within the Kiewa Valley. The frame therefore has historical significance.This gold painted aluminium photograph frame has a glass (broken) pane within a formed inlay and two swivel clip toggles. These are installed to allow the photograph to be securely positioned within the correct alignment of the the frame.The metal front plate has seven rivets holding the cloth covered cardboard back frame to the metal front cover. The front part of the frame has sculptured wild flowers and is boarded with a Greek "key" pattern. Half way on the back panel is a rectangular swiveled stabiliser flap. A black cotton tie pouch with embroidered yellow flowers and green leaves on two sides and pink flowers and green and white leaves on the other two. The pouch has a pink satin border and a pink bow on the fold, as well as two interior pockets and two pink ties (one detached). The pouch contains a shadow apron with a floral pattern and a lace border and it also has a separate beaded waistband. There is also a small satin sachet with the letters "J S T" embroidered in pale blue with a scalloped edging on the gold coloured side and a gold and white wreath embroidered on the crimson side with a white zig-zag embroidered edging. A bathroom set would have been a common item in most households in the 19th century and up the mid 20th century. Not many of the bathroom sets, however, would have been as fine and as attractive as this one as this one would have belonged to a family with some wealth. Bathroom sets went out of common use once houses were sewered or had septic tanks and toilets and bathrooms were constructed inside the main house building. This set is of interest as an example of a common household item in houses 100 years ago or more. It will be useful for display.This is a five-piece china bathroom/ toilet set. The five pieces that comprise the set have a white background with a floral pattern in sage green monochrome with roses, carnations, sweet pea and dianthus. In the pattern are also tendrils and foliage. The jug is an elongated oval shape with a decorated handle. The interior of the lip is chipped. The circular bowl has an indented ridge at the top with interior and exterior decoration. The bowl is partly discoloured and there is some crazing. The toothbrush holder has a vase-like shape with an indented rim with fluting on the top. The chamber pot is circular with a decorated handle and one crack. The soap holder is circular and has three parts – the circular decorated base, the inset piece with a fluted edge and one large and six small holes for draining, and the decorated lid which is also fluted around the edge. Silver silk, with a jacquard woven floral pattern. Long sleeves have pleated tops, forming a leg-o-mutton sleeve, which gathers in at the elbows, to a narrow fitted sleeve to the wrist. A 4cm wide band of cream satin embroidered and corded lace. Cream cording and lace trims the cuffs, the shoulder/arm hole seam, and two bands on each side of the V shaped cross-over bodice. Metal press-studs fasten the cross over bodice at the waistline. Cream satin with embroidered lace overlay forms a 5cm wide stand-up collar and a centre front panel at neckline. Twelve metal hooks and eyes fasteners fasten the grey cotton front lining of the bodice. The cotton lining of the bodice is part machine, and part hand stitched. Second layer of cotton lining across the shoulders and back( 39cmsLength). Sewn into neck and shoulder seams. Large uneven stitches attach the lining to side seams. Coat and lining have seven gored panels giving fullness to the coat. Fold over collar (14 cms). Front opening with ten velvet covered shanked buttons with fabric loops. Long sleeves gathered at shoulder and cuffs(2 cms), with six cms opening with press stud fastener.Owner of coat was Isabel Lilian Pegler (nee Mair) 1921-1997. The coat was worn to Saturday night dances. Porcelain figurine of a woman holding a baby. The woman is wearing a blue dress, with a blue floral pattern, underneath a white medical coat. She has blonde hair which is tied loosely behind her, and white slip on shoes. She is holding the baby in front of her chest, with the baby's back leaning against her left forearm and the baby's head cradled in her left hand. Her right hand is supporting the baby from beneath. The baby is loosely wrapped in a white blanket, with its torso visible. The woman is standing next to a small table which supports a set of baby weighing scales and a bottle of talc next to the scales. A cloth trails down from the table to the floor. There is a manufacturing mark on the back of the base of the statue. The top row of text is obscured, but the remaining test on the mark reads 'porcellane/PRINCIPE/MADE IN ITALY'. A small Certificate of Origin tag is attached to the weighing scales by a small, thin cord. Sticker underneath the base of the statue reads 'BELLINI/PONTE VECCHIO/FIRENZE'.

Suitcase brought by Dutch immigrant.The fact that the owner reinforced and mended the suitcase suggests the Dutch trait of taking care of things and making them last. The stencilled initials suggest this case was probably stored in the hold.Brown painted suitcase of reinforced oilcloth with metal handle and two metal locks. A small door lock has been added to the lid which has been reinforced on the inside by a timber slat. A plywood slat has been added to the handle side of the case. The rims of lid and case are made of metal, as are the corners. The papered interior of both case and lid shows a small floral pattern in black and beige although, as part of the reinforcement, a coat of brown paint has been added to the inside of the lid and case, but not the bottom. Of the two straps designed to hold down the contents one is still in place, but the other has been replaced by a length of elastic. The original strap is made of cotton, now a dirty white with blue edging, and does up with a small metal buckle. The interior of the case shows a lot of wear and tear with evidence of multiple repairs. A small black metal chain holds up the lid, the corresponding one on the opposite side is missing. On the inside: the timber slat carries the name A.T.A. RIJKEN in black ink and also on a black Dymo label. On the outside: the handle side displays the initials A.T.A.R. and the figure 3 in white stencil. The lid bears evidence of a label in the bottom left hand corner. The lock, added by the owner, is 3cm in diameter and branded ELZETT Made in Hungary.luggage
