Shelley recalls her mother telling her about spending many hours in the Gardens when she was young with her friend Chic, who was the daughter of the Curator Ernie Anderson. Ron Barassi leaving Melbourne at the end of the 1964 season was one of the most sensational stories in VFL history. Carlton defeated Essendon 7.14 (56) to 8.5 (53) Att 115828.
