Marianne Hardridge married James Maggs and had 11 children. They began orcharding on Wonga Road when there was nothing but bush. Over the years it became one of the largest orchards, and they were also one of the largest families in the district. As well as helping on the land Marianne took up nursing and as Nurse Maggs brought over 500 children into the world in the Ringwood area. This "outdoor" dinner plate was made in Hong Kong and is therefore dated well after World War II. It was imported from Hong Kong at the beginning of the start of the great Asian influx of cheap household/camping kitchen and dinner plates(1960's onward). It is also during the time before stronger and more resilient plastic "camper" goods. It was at the start of the city based outdoor campers Australian bush adventure holidays.This plate is very significant to the High Plains cattlemen of the Victorian Alpine Region. Because of its unbreakable and easy to clean qualities this type of plate and associate mugs where a necessity for overnight workers and campers in the upper Kiewa Valley and its high plains regions. The Kiewa Valley has small township centres and to survive in the Australian bush high country environment camp-side fires and meals required sturdy utensils and plates.This yellow enameled tin soup/salad/dinner plate has a green boarded rim and can hold a variety of different meals. This book has written by a local Warrnambool resident Dennis O’Keeffe. He was a folk-singer and composer and collector of folk songs. In this book he documented for the first time the full details of the origins of the song, ‘Waltzing Matilda’, especially its connections with 19th century Warrnambool. It contains much original material. This book is significant because it was written by a well-known Warrnambool resident and tells the full story of the origins of the song, Waltzing Matilda, including its beginnings in Warrnambool in 1894. The book is signed by the author. This is a soft cover book of 294 pages. The front cover has yellow and white lettering with an image of a bushman camping in the bush with a smaller version of the same image on the back cover. Information on the book is on the back cover. The book has a preface, 17 chapters of text, a bibliography, notes and an index. There are several black and white photographs and illustrations in the book. This Commode Chair has been skillfully adapted by a bush carpenter from a kitchen chair - possibly for an invalid at a time when toilets were usually outside and often difficult to reach. The hinged seat is held up by a wire hook (No.8 fencing wire), and the seat can be lifted to remove the commode pot. The cream paint is of the type universally used for kitchen furniture before a more diverse range of paint colours became available.A wooden commode chair converted from a kitchen chair with four round legs and a hinged seat. Underneath is a hole to hold chamber pot or covered commode. The backrest consists of three turned spindles between squared timber that supports a carved rail across top. Dr David Waldron has spent years trawling through government documents and speaking to old farmers and policemen trying to gather as much information as possible for a book on the subject of giant cats. In 2013 his book, co-authored with Simon Townsend, "Snarls from the tea-Tree: A History of Victorian Big cat Folkore" was published.Half a page from an undated Ballarat Courier with information relating to big cats in the Australian bush. It also includes an image of Dr David Waldron. The article is a response to the findings of Noel Judd of Smythesdale who reported the death of a Shetland pony , and found paw prints of a large cat nearby. Handwritten copy of a report in the Bendigo Advertiser 19th, 20th and 21st August 1894 of an explosion and fire at the South Belle Vue Mine Enginehouse. Water pressure was a problem with their fire fighting efforts. While this was happening a messenger came tosay the Enginehouse at the True Blue Mine was also on fire. Both fires were believed to be deliberately lit. In 1869 the Council moved to name this park "Victoria Park. The cricket pitch construction began in 1873 and major improvements to the ground were undertaken in 1881. It is still the primary sporting ground in Echuca, offering AFL football oval, cricket pitch and nets, athletics and entry to the Echuca boat ramp and the natural bush land of the scenic drive. It also houses Echuca Council caravan park. The signage in this photograph is no longer there and the enterance to the caravan park has moved.This area of Echuca has historically been a major recreational area for the town. Being the primary sporting ground since its establishment in 1869., the area has a number of sporting and recreational facilities for the people of Campaspe Shire, from natural bush walks in and along the Murray river to more formal facilities such as AFL football ground, firefighting training area, netball courts, cricket pitch and nets, and grass tennis courts. Methodist services began in late 1893 in the bush, near the end of the present Silvan Reservoir. The seats were split rails and the pulpit a fallen log with a sapling rail. Then a miner's bark hut became available in on the Recreation Ground. The Methodist Church was built and opened in 1903 on the corner of Moxham's Rd and David Hill Rd., with the financial assistance of Mr. James Griffiths of Griffiths Tea. Nettleton creates an image of peace and tranquility after the violence felt from the 2009 Black Saturday bush fires / At the Arthurs Creek cemetery Nettleton found the grave of Reg Evans and Angela Brunton, friends who had perished in the fires / Nettleton sat on the edge of their joint grave and photographed their view / It was only after examining the photos more closely that she realized Mount Sugarloaf had burnt almost to the valley / Sugarloaf is always in an indigo haze. This work is by a local contemporary artist and encompasses themes dealing with the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires.
