Demonstrates aspects of Safeworking on the Ballarat Tramway system from 1960 to c1936 when replaced by electric signs. Yields Information about the operation of Ballarat's trams and safeworking procedures. Demonstrates what can happen in use - has been run over by a tram - possibly being exchanged on the move or some other story.Cast brass item with a flat part recessed section with the words "BALLARAT TRAMWAYS SECTION STAFF" cast into the surface and a flat section underneath, flush with the outside edges in which the words "STURT ST RUBICON ST " stamped in. Has an open rounded end which forms a handle or a point where it could be hung on a peg. The staff has been run over by a tram and had the last part of the object cut off. Used as a means of authorising a tramcar to have sole use of the track between the named points to avoid head on collisions. Safeworking object - known as a section staff. Not known when made, but in use until the introduction of the electric signalling in the mid 1930's by the SEC. Model of Melbourne tram W5 (actually a SW5) No. 812, electric model, made by Cooee Concepts Pty Ltd in China. Model packaged in a wooden packing case with a red felt base, contained within a card board outer case. The card board cover or case has a printed sheet giving details of the model and the history of the W5 Class tramcar. The wooden case has a brass plate detailing the contents. Scale 00 or 1:76. Model made from plastic and metal, with operable lights and motors with operable trolley poles, swivelling bogies, destination of St Kilda, showing route 16. Headlights function in the direction of travel. Package has manufacturing date of 2008 printed on it. Set of six large posters, featuring the tram map of Melbourne, Inner City, Northern and Southern sections. Items .1 to .3 have an adhesive backing for application onto a tramcar advertising rack. Items .4 to .6 are photocopies of the same with corrections or suggested changes, all c1990. .1 - Inner City - approx. A3, Has the revised The Met symbol with a key along the lower edge detailing route numbers and routes. .2 - Southern Region Tram Map with a map key showing hospitals, points of interest, parks and gardens, some schools and zones. Six issues of "Tram Tracks - The Electric Traction Monthly" of the Australian Electric Traction Association. Each issue has a standard cover, of the magazine name etc, featuring "Wee Folks Productions" models but are in different colours, all have been saddled stapled with two staples, except No. 6. The Volume and date details have been over printed. Back covers inside back covers have the same advertisements but the font varies vary. Destination roll - white lettering on black background. Destination roll used at the TB Footscray depot. Has stencil words "STOP" on top and bottom, stencilled miniature destinations on rear to assist drivers to locate the destination. Letters are 146 high. Roll consists of a unpainted section, 520 long at top, 2280 long painted section and a 1500 long unpainted section at base. Has been rolled using a 16 diameter wooden dowel - 925 long. Destinations in order from top are: DEPOT; WILLIAMSTOWN RD; RAILWAY STATION; RUSSELL ST; BALLARAT RD; SPECIAL; FOOTBALL GROUND; EXPLOSIVES FACTORY; ORDANCE FTY; AUNITION FACTORY; PYROTECHNIC FACTORY; CITY VIA HAYMARKET. Colour photograph of TMSV tour photo for the 60th anniversary of electric trams in Ballarat in August 1965. Photo of Ballarat No. 18 photographed alongside MMTB AEC Regal Mk III bus, No. 543 (42 seats) (Reg. No. HJG 543). No. 18 has a specially painted board over the front of the tram "60th Anniversary / Electric Trams / 1905 Ballarat 1965". Standing between the tram and Bus are Les Denmead, D. Irvine, J. Dowd and T. Young. Both vehicles showing "Special" and standing on Ballarat depot fan. Photo also appears in "MMTB News", Oct - Nov. 1965, Reg. Item 2719.7. Dave Macartney advised 19/11/01 that other the other official guests at the event was Mr. F. K. White, Manager Ballarat SEC. Also attending was W.J. K. Dunstan. See Reg Item 3496 for a newspaper clipping. See Dave Macartney 18/11/01 - advised of tramcar number and that it took about 3.5 hours to travel from Melbourne to Ballarat by the bus. Black & White Photograph of one of the ESCo Toastracks being assembled in the Exhibition Buildings in Grenville St., north of the Alfred Hall in 1905. The other open Toastrack or Summer tramcar is behind this tram, with other California Combination cars on the sides. The trams have yet to be fitted with wheels or equipment, including headlights. Note the front dash panel has been painted, but no headlight opening or cut out. The print for this photograph made from a copy negative of page 454 of the Australasian, August 19, 1905 in 1993. Print includes caption (all in caps) "Summer Traffic Car: to be used in trips to and from the Gardens. It is without sides, and has reversible backs. Ballarat Electric Tram Service". See Reg.
