Ephemera - The Beehive Package Label (unused)
Historic department store package label. Beehive buildings. This was originally the Sandhust Mining Exchange and as such was the oldest purpose built exchange in Australia and was one of only two in regional Australia. It was initially established in the 1850's to service the miners of the area. It's first double story incarnation as the Bendigo Stock Exchange, contained up to 2000 stockbrokers and 5000 shareholders. In 1871 the building burnt to the ground and the new and current building was completed in 1872. [b] Letter dated 28th October 1977 addressed to Mary Jolley above address, including printed letter-head reading 'The Bailiff's Chambers, Royal Court House, Guernsey and oval Bailiff Stamp. Letter reads, Dear Madam, thank you for letter of the 30th September. There are as far as I know no members of the Maingay family in Guernsey at present. A book titled 'Newspaper Cuttings' in gold leaf with black leather binding and corners on blue cloth covered cardboard cover. Stiff paper pages inside numbered top right -hand corners 1-90 in printed black ink. Poor condition overall. Pages 37 - 44 missing. Page 45-46 pertaining to Violet Jolley separately bagged. Entries mostly pertain to Mr Howard Jolley , an aviation field inspector of the Life Insurance Company of Australia. First entry page 16 -17 contains photographs and newspaper cuttings relating to an air crash on Bendigo racecourse in May 1921. Jolley was involved in numerous air-crashes for the next ten years. Photographs and newspaper cuttings related to these, along with dinner invitations, etc, are pasted into the book. Ticket block headed Ballarat Vintage Tramway. On the rear in green ink are details of the Ballarat Tramway Museum, web address and that the organisation is a volunteer operated. The 100 tickets have been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a small cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. Ticket Numbers 191001 to 192100. The tickets are in the style of the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria tramway tickets. The 1/- tickets are used for Adult passengers, to save printing new tickets each time the fares changed. Commenced used end Jan. 1991. See Reg Item 5964 for the fourth run of the 1/- and 6d tickets and 1622 for the first run. RFDS was begun by Reverend John Flynn as an aerial Medical Service out of Cloncurry, Queensland in 1928. By 1934 it had expanded across outback Australia. Cobb and Co. was a stagecoach line transporting diggers between the gold fields. There were many coach lines but there names were generalised to "Cobb and Co.
