Ethel Bersey was born at Linton in 1882. She married James Wishart in 1910. George Bersey was born at Linton in 1887, and married Wilhelmina Collins in 1910.Black and white copy of original photograph which shows a woman seated slightly sideways on a chair, with her hand resting on a table, and a man standing behind her, one hand in his pocket and the other appears to be resting on the back of the chair. Photograph, Caroline Lewers with Lily Murrell
Caroline Lewers, née Murrell, b. 1867 at Happy Valley, was a daughter of Ambrose and Mary Murrell. Prior to her marriage, Caroline Murrell assisted her mother to manage the Victoria Hotel in Linton. In 1910 she married William Ochiltree Lewers (son of Annie Lewers and Samuel Lewers). Caroline's sister-in-law Lily (Mary Lillian) Murrell, née Young, was born in Birmingham, England, and migrated to Australia with her father James Young when she was seven. In Australia James Young changed his name to Clarke and was known as James Young Clarke (Lily also used this surname). James Young Clarke moved with Lily to Linton, where he ran J Y Clarke's tobacconist and barber shop in Sussex Street. Lily Clarke married William Murrell, son of Ambrose and Mary Murrell, in 1901. They lived at Daylesford and other localities before returning to Linton in about 1912, when William Murrell took over management of the newsagency. His services included coffin making, and over time the business gradually evolved into "Nelson Bros Undertakers". R.S. Nelson married Mary Ann Dawe in 1864. The older daughter of Dr James Blair Donaldson Snr, Roberta Donaldson was born at Linton in 1891. She studied medicine at the University of Melbourne before working at the Melbourne Children's Hospital. She then spent three years practising in India. She was in private medical practice at Surrey Hills (Melbourne) from around 1920 to 1970. Anna Woods, 1848-1920, was a daughter of James Burns Woods and his wife Anna, née Coates. The Woods family migrated to Victoria in 1864. In 1974, Anna married Ewen Rankin, who held land adjoining her father's property near Linton. Ewen and Anna build a house which they called 'Glenree'. Anna and Ewen Rankin had eight children - Catherine (Kate), James, John, Anna, Mary, Lucy, William (Bill) and Ewen. The Rankins were active members of the Presbyterian congregation in Linton.Black and white photograph which shows a woman wearing a dark dress with full sleeves and a wide decorative collar. Frances Dorothea Mary Port, born in England in 1890, married Dr James Blair Donaldson (the younger) in 1916 in England, where he was serving with the British armed forces during World War I. At the end of the war, she came to Australia. The Donaldsons lived at Linton with their two sons, Frank (born in England in 1917) and George (born 1920), before they moved to Skipton in 1926.Enlarged black and white copy of original photograph which has been mounted on card. From the Place of Many Eagles book, "Louis was born in Purdu, France, in 1855, and came to Ringwood from Walhalla in 1887 and erected a weatherboard house and shop opposite the Club Hotel, using a Miner's Right to secure the land. When he arrived, Louis was a married man with three children, Leopold (1882), Marie (1884), John (1886). He had married Kate Handforth at Walhalla in 1879. In later years Elizabeth, Minellia, Louis and Denise were born. Kate's father was known as the midwife of the Gippsiand township because he had once been a fourth year medical student in England, but earnt a living as a goldbuyer in Victoria. Marie Herry would grow up remembering her grandfather calling sometimes at Ringwood; he would bring the children jubilee Mixture to eat and he carried a revolver in his pocket. Often he would play the violin while Marie would stepdance on the kitchen table." -

Emma Mercer was born in 1870 and lived at Spring Vale (now Pittong) at the Mercer property "The Pines". Emma worked as a teacher and head teacher at several schools, including Mortchup, Chepstowe, Kiata and Tarilta. In 1916, after she had retired from teaching, she married James Brown, a widower, one of a large farming family at Chepstowe. They had no children. James' brother David was married to Emma's sister Elizabeth (Bessie), and after James Brown died in 1931, Emma moved to live near her sister at Pittong. Emma Brown died in 1954. Emma and her sister Bessie were very involved with the war effort during World War I, and after the war they were presented with certificates of appreciation by the Linton "Diggers".
