Melbourne Legacy
Photograph - Junior legatee outing, Somers Camp, 01/1968
A photo of 8 boys in a camp kitchen cleaning up after a meal. From the inscriptions it is Somers Camp in January 1968. Melbourne Legacy provided camps for junior legatees - the children of deceased servicemen. It started with outings to the property of Legacy founder, Legatee Stan Savige, who had a place in Balnarring. Permanent camp buildings were built and with an association with Lord Somers (Governor of Victoria) it was called Somers Camp. The camps gave the children an opportunity of a summer beach holiday with other Legacy children. It came from a Legacy envelope marked "P6 Junior Legatee Camps and Hols" in red pen, and dated Jan 1977 in pencil. The contents will be items 00418 to 00425. A record of Junior Legatee camps.Black and white photo of boys cleaning up the camp kitchen.Legacy P6 in blue pen. Stamped "The Property of Melbourne Legacy" and 19 Jan 1968 in purple ink. Clothing - Fletcher Jones Man's Sports Coat, 1970s
This sports coat was made at a Fletcher Jones factory about the 1970s. David Fletcher Jones (1895-1977) served in World War One and in the 1920s set up as a travelling hawker selling drapery in Western Victoria. In 1924 he leased three shops in Liebig Street, Warrnambool and in 1928 opened his Man's Shop at the intersection of Koroit/Liebig Streets. He manufactured men's clothing on site in a new building erected in 1931. In 1946 a Fletcher Jones shop was opened in Melbourne and in 1948 a factory was established in Warrnambool with a new company Fletcher Jones and Staff established in 1951.This company then operated in other States and known Australia-wide firstly for its production of men's trousers and later for men's and women's clothing. By 2011 the Warrnambool factory was closed and the company dissolved. This coat was bought by Lew Officer, a member of a family with pastoral interests in the Western District. This item is of considerable historical interest as an example of the high quality work produced by the Fletcher Jones and Staff Clothing Stores. This company was a key industry in Warrnambool in the 20th centuryThis is a man's sports coat made of Harris tweed hand woven in the Outer Hebrides made from Scottish-grown wool. The checked material is in brown tonings. The coat has a brown material lining and there are two brown buttons down the front and two on each sleeve. The collar has a grey felt lining.fletcher jones clothing stores, warrnambool, harris tweed jacket, lew officer -

WHS Magazine -Korrumbeia, 1952
This is the transition year as the Wangaratta High school magazine is renamed to Korrumbeia. Korrumbeia is Victorian aboriginal term meaning restful river/creek (Kurrabi; creek, Umina; rest, Beeia; river) This is a reference to the Ovens and King rivers merging in Wangaratta, and the fact that WHS houses are named after local waterways.Black and white photocopy of the 1952 edition of Korrumbeia featuring a large image of the interschool sports athletics team -

Sash, Mount Beauty Garden Sash
1947 The SEC created an Arboretum and Nursery on the bank of the West Kiewa River. Householder could collect free plants, trees and topsoil for their gardens. It was not long before there was very keen competition amongst the families to create the best garden. 1948 A Mount Beauty Garden competition started with a first prize of 15 pounds, second 7 pounds and third 3 pounds. As the oldest garden in the competition was only 25 months old and most were younger a handicap system of 4 points per month was devised. Tom Mitchell MLA was the donor and judge. 1965 This sash was possibility worn by Jean McCullough in 1965 when the Mt Beauty & District Progress Association Auxiliary ran the completion. An example of the social life at Mt Beauty during the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme.Royal blue sateen sash with gold fringe. This trophy has been awarded in 1940 in a table tennis competition to a sporting team called C.M.I. The Warrnambool Table Tennis Association is affiliated with the Victorian Table Tennis Association and has its headquarters in Cramer Street Warrnambool. This cup is of interest as a local Warrnambool sports trophy awarded during World War Two.This is a silver cup mounted on a brown Bakelite base. Statuette, Thibenzole Ram
This ceramic ram was produced to promote or advertise "Thibenzole", a product of Merck, Sharp and Dohme (Australia) Pty Ltd. Thibenzole is an anthelmintic or anti worm drench produced by MSD and launched onto the market in early 1962. It was promoted as being useful against most worm varieties and for being tasteless, odourless and easy to use. Presumably this ceramic ram was used as either a give away by MSD salesmen or as a shop countertop display.Ceramic ram advertising Thibenzole, a sheep drench produced by Merck, Sharp & Dohme (Australia) Pty Ltd, 1962.
