'Grantully' was formerly 'Rosemount', South Yarra, home of Thoas Elder Boyd. Brought to Mt Evelyn by Fergus Scott c. 1917, guesthouse 1920's-30's, home of artist Ernest Buckmaster 1940-68.Part of wooden beam possibly cedar, from the house "Grantully", English, 1840's. The more recently sawn end has pinkish tinge. The rectangular cavity is a 'mortise' into which a projection ('tenon') on another piede fitted.Inscription on one side, possibly made by permanent marker. " "GRANTULLY" MT. In the 1920's West Beach Swimming Club was located at the corner of Beacon Road & the Boulevard in Garden City. The main hall was a men only facility with the women using in the smaller building at the rear. This "art deco" style of containers were very popular by the "art and trendy" socialites, be they in the city or in rural towns and properties. This style was very popular in the 1940's to 1950's. The octagonal shape provided the stability of the decanter with its "expensive" contents. Because of its style it blended in well with any lavish meal and socio economic "upper" class environment. It was a part of social atmosphere of elegance and wealth be it in the city or on a rural property. This is very significant to the Kiewa Valley rural "society" environment. At the time of its use the wealth of Australia was "riding on the sheep's back", that is rural income(primary producers), on the whole, was well above that in the cities (industrial). It was in a period where large wealthy property owners could spend lavishly on trendy domestic items.This octagonal glass decanter with its egg shaped stopper is made in an "art deco" style and reflects the 1950's style of bold design. The decanter "stopper" has been cut in a "diamond" cut to reflect the sunlight as does a diamond ring. The stopper is tapered down to permit easy placement and removal. The PEVENSEY was renamed for the TV series All the Rivers Run, to P. S. Philadelphia , playing a staring role in the program, which has resulted in the PEVENSEY becoming a tourist attraction and has increased tourism to the Port of Echuca. The PEVENSEY was originally designed for use on the Murrumbidgee river, named after Pevensey station on that river. It was then owned by Permewan Wright & co operating out of Echuca for many years. The Kew Bowling Club was formed in 1880 while the privately owned Auburn Heights Recreation Club was opened in 1904. By 1998, the two Clubs decided to amalgamate at the Auburn Heights site in Barkers Road, forming the Kew Heights Sports Club. The combined club was itself taken over by the Melbourne Cricket Club in 2012 becoming MCC Kew Sports Club. In 2017 MCC Kew closed and its landholding was subsequently sold to Carey Baptist Grammar School. The combined collections of the four sporting clubs making up the collection number hundreds of items that are historically and socially significant to the development of Kew. They are also significant to the sporting history of the greater Melbourne area and to the sports of lawn bowls and tennis in Australia in the 19th and 20th centuries. P. S. Rodney , owned by Permewan Wright, was used to transport non Union strikebreaking shearers to the Darling River sheep stations , during the later 19th century. Union shearers burnt it to the waterline. This shows the remains of the P. S. Rodney.This photograph is very significant as it was one of the events of the Australian shearers' strike of 1891-1894. Elizabeth Goodenough came to Australia aged 16/17 having paid 5 pounds to the government to secure a paid position in the colony of NSW. Within a year of arrival she had married Richard Phillips whose 1st wife had died in childbirth, leaving behind a 4 year old son.
