The State Governor Sir Rohan Delacombe and Lady Delacombe visited the Shire of Eltham where they were entertained to a civic luncheon by the Shire President Cr. L. E. Clarke and councilors at the Panton Hill hotel and made a tour of the shire. Among which was the Eltham elderly citizens' club where he met L-R: Mrs Lander, Mrs Stevenson, Mrs Armstrong, Mrs Norman, Mrs - , and Mrs Crockett. Clarendon PLC celebrated its 125th anniversary on 11-12 September 1993. Events included a dinner on Saturday evening at the Balanada Room, Main Road, Ballarat, a Sunday morning service in the College Chapel, Sturt Street campus and an informal luncheon in Watson Hall, Mair Street campus. These bowls were hand made by Susan Gillett (Hoskins) CPLC 1966 as gifts provided to old collegians attending the event. SS Iberia was an ocean liner completed in 1954 for the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O). Along withother liners, Iberia mainly provided passenger service between the United Kingdom and Australia. In the Annual Report 1954, Padre Oliver mentions: " Two fine new P & O ships made their maiden voyages during the year: "Arcadia" and "Iberia". A speech and slideshow given by Councillor Joseph Haweil to a Legacy Comradeship Luncheon on 27 June 2023. Cr Haweil is Mayor of Hume City and a member of the Assyrian community in Melbourne. He spoke about the actions of Stanley Savige during World War 1 that lead to him saving over 50,000 Assyrian refugees in Persia. A letter to Deputy Prime Minister Doug Anthony inviting him to speak at Legacy and his replies that he couldn't commit at that stage, the notations were updates on further contact with him to try and finalise a date. Legatees met regularly and had guest speakers to entertain and inform on different subjects at their Tuesday Luncheons. These documents was from a file of information about guest speakers (see also 00812-00822 and 00829-00837). The Programme Committee was responsible for organising the speakers. A legatee function in Legacy House to celebrate L/ Ron Austin's birthday in 1992. Ron was the youngest Melbourne Legatee to have served in World War 1. He served again in World War 2 and received an OBE for his devotion to duty. He was a regular at the widows' monthly concerts and the World War 1 luncheons. There is a display of military items on the table, mostly hats. Photos were in a scrapbook of photos spanning 1983 to 1991. The poem honours the service to Legacy by Wendy Faulkner who came to Legacy on 13 September 1965 after working on the stage. Rest of the page and its reverse item highlights the Induction of three legatees, Amendments to diary and mailing lists, Transfers between branches, Resignations, and Nominations. These notifications were announced during the weekly luncheon meetings and later published in the Melbourne Legacy Bulletin.This item records the way in which Legacy kept Legatees informed of the arrivals and departures of members. A speech by Legatee Dono Joynt at a Legacy luncheon on 28 October 1952. His talk mentions that 'Harelands' the Club's fourth residence about to be opened. The Club was in need of funds for the next year. He says; 'I am convinced that this Club can FACE anything, and DO ANYTHING and OVERCOME anything, if the members of the Club are STRONG enough in their desire for whatever it is they want to achieve.' which is the theme of his speech. The tape has not been played but from the label it is a recording of 'Mission Matilda - a leap for Legacy'. Mission Matilda was when former Junior Legatee Brian Edwards set out in September 1993 to complete a flight around Australia in a tiger moth called 'Matilda' as a tribute to Legacy's 70th Anniversary. He was due to arrive at Essendon Airport on 4th October 1993 and a celebratory luncheon was held. The event was supported by Ansett Airlines and Optus Communications. It is possibly a promotional video. It is 11 minutes duration.
