Set of 19 drawings showing the development of the Melbourne tramway system between 1885 and 1921. Based on MMTB drawing "Tramway Map of Melbourne & Suburbs" P4609, 18 sheets showing year by year development of the cable and electric tram system, printed on off white paper. Mr. McComb had intended it would appear to do further work - with some 20 sheets printed on brown card paper but not used (.19 - same drawing) Each sheet has the year in red at the bottom right hand corner of the sheet. .1 - 1885 - with the Richmond line and main rail lines coloured in showing a catchment area. .2 - 1886 - shows the new cable line in Collins St and has a note that no suburban line constructed in 1886 .3 - 1887 - Bourke and northern lines and Brighton Beach to Sandringham and Hawthorn to Kew .4 - 1888 - Swanston St, Domain Road, Chapel and inner circle and towards Hurstbridge.\ .5 - 1889 - Rathdown St and Toorak Road .6 - 1890 - South and Port Melbourne, North Melbourne and Northcote. Tramway - summarises the current tramways operating, cable system and operational stats, the current tramway systems, other cities, relative merits, future tramways for Melbourne, operational speeds, use of cable conduits for electric traction, conversion, municipal control , control of the tramways by the railways, a general scheme, formation of a larger tramway trust and its management, purchase of the cable tramways and recommendations. Newspaper Clipping - set of three clippings adhered to both sides of a sheet of ruled quarto paper with punched holes on the left hand side - various newspapers. .1 - "Tram Lines" - full page - from Melbourne University newspaper - Farrago - Friday April 11 -1969 - Titled "Tram Lines" with a photograph and story of MMTB Driver Cyril Tucker, Kew Depot, written by John Steed. Cyril joined the MMTB in 1922. Gives Cyril's thoughts on being a Trammie, notes the issue of the "scabs" - Tom Pesteranovich and Brooker (see Reg Item 2561). Has two photos and a cartoon sketch of the front of a tram. .2 - "Let's get rid of trams" - Letter to the Herald 11/4/1969 - written by David Crowther - Beaumaris - about trams cluttering the streets - got rid of even in Brisbane. Has a photograph of a tram stuck in traffic in Toorak Road. .3 - "Brisbane Trams Farewell" - Herald - 14/4/`969 - notes closure of Brisbane tram system. Quotes former Transport Minister Mr. Meagher that twice as many buses would be needed. Pamphlet - DL 6 fold from A3 sheet, full colour titled "City Circle Tram Melbourne", detailing the City Circle tram, c2003 - has route via Harbour Esplanade - map shows various points, the Golden Mile heritage walk. Notes that the route had recently been extended to run through Docklands. Has contact details but no web site. Has the Victoria government and Yarra Trams logos. Tram was extended early 2003. Set of two newsletters, printed on A4 sheets, produced by Rank and File workers, non union Executive, workers to note concerns that they considered the union executive was not following. .1 - Two A4 sheets stapled in the top left hand corner, dated June 1986, covers job reduction, maintenance workers, conductors, Essendon, Kew and a BBQ planned to be held on June 15. .2 - folded A3 sheet, with an introduction of the newsletter, dated Feb. 1992, covers issues with the Executive, Kew depot, unions, ATMOEA, tram routes, disability and actions of the Executive. Two copies held. Second copy added 18-4-2017, from Lindsay Bounds in addition to first donation - receive 8/4/2017. Set of five pamphlets of an industrial or public relations nature issued during the early to mid 1980's. .1 - "The Wage Freeze" - foolscap printed on yellow paper, issued by the ATMOEA Vic Branch May 1983. .2 - "Public Transport: You pay more for less" - change of services, staff cuts, safety, Fuel conservation and what should be done - issued by the North Fitzroy Tramways Depot Committee and notes a meeting on Monday 17 September - (1984 by calendar check) - foolscap printed both sides on white paper. .3 - "$440,000 tram stripped for spare parts" - tram Z137, stripped - duplicated on blue quarto paper, issued by "concerned tramway workers" . Notes the tram had entered service in 1980 and had been stored for some time. .4 - "Open letter to passengers of Melbourne Tramway System" - complaining about the shortage of crews at Kew Depot - and asking people to register a complaint with the Minister Peter Spyker. Issued by "concerned Kew tram workers" - printed on blue A4 paper. .5 - "They are going to sell off Public Transport:" - ATMOEA - signed by Jim Harper - about the forthcoming 1 Oct. 1988 state election, asking readers to put the Liberals last. Twenty page book including paper covers titled "Australia's First Electric Tram" written by John Kinmont Moir and published by Traction Publications, Historical Series No. 1 in 1957. The story of the Doncaster and Box Hill Electric Road (tramway). Publishers Note on page 6, advises that this book was the 3rd edition and gives the background history. Has a sketch on the front cover of the opening ceremony at Box Hill, poster advertising the tramway, a map, foreword written by J.K. Moir about Mr. H. J. Hilton who operated the tramway, the birth of the tramway, the company that was formed to operate it, , a sample ticket, opening, operation, timetable, reminiscences of H. J. Hilton. Includes notes on the subsequent work of Mr. Hilton, and on the back cover a details of the AETA , office bearers, publications and contact details. Letter, Ken Craven, Stamps - "Australia's Historic Tramways, 1989
Set of three items associated with a letter from Ken Craven, Secretary of the AETA to John Belot. .1 - White DL size envelope with the five of the Oct 1989 Historic Tramway Stamps with the tram cancellation stamp dated 11 October 1989. Has the "Australia's Historic Tramways" logo in the lower left hand corner, hand addressed to John Belot and the stamp for the stamp show Melbourne 18-22 October 1989 in the bottom right hand corner. On the rear has details of the stamp issue, W.K. Craven's address stamp, and two cancellation stamps - Blackburn 11 Oct. 1989 and Caulfield Post Office stamp. .2 - Handwritten letter from Ken Craven, Secretary of the AETA to John Belot, noting the exhibition at Box Hill and his forthcoming trip to NZ and the Transport Art ticket enclosed. .3 - Transporting Art tram No. 13 ticket No. 0085, dated 17th July 1989, Jenyns tram (Lorraine and Bob).
