Australian force Vietnam, 2.National memorial to Vietnam forces 3 Vietnam vetrans parade sydney 1987. 1. Australian Vietnam Forces National Memorial and 2. National Memorial to Vietnam forces The Australian Vietnam Forces National Memorial is dedicated to all those Australians who served, suffered and died in that conflict. It was built largely through contributions from the Australian people, raised by the Australian Vietnam Forces National Memorial Committee. 3. Vietnam Vetrans Parade Sydney 1987 On October 3, 1987, around 22, 000 Vietnam veterans marched in a ‘Welcome Home’ parade through the streets of Sydney It was estimated that the parade was watched by a crowd of up to 100,000, including Prime Minister Hawke, and that it stood up to ten deep along the parade route in some places. he marchers carried more than 500 Australian flags, each flag representing a serviceman who had lost their life during the Vietnam War. These simple acts represented the reconciliatory nature of the event – the flags, standing for the nation-state, were accepted as a proper symbol for the fallen by the veterans and symbolised their reconciliation with the body politic that they felt had rejected their rightful place in the Anzac narrative after the end of the Vietnam conflict. Commemorative Plate, 1948
The item was created by Bouwens and van Kampen, a ceramics business founded in Bussum by Greta Klaar. Greta married her pupil Johannes Bouwens in Amsterdam during the war. The couple then moved to Soest where the business became known as "De vlieg-uut". It went from strength to strength until a fatal accident in 1970 after which it was permanently closed. The designers and ceramicists specialised in small plates such as this commemorative one for Queen Juliana's accession to the throne following the abdication of her mother, Queen Wilhelmina. The item recalls the joyful celebrations that took place in Septermber 1948 when Juliana accepted the throne from her mother Queen Wilhelmina. The Queen had reigned for 50 years including the period of 1940-45 (WWII) during which she carried out her duties from London. Juliana and her family resided in Ottawa, Canada during those years. To some extent this event was the final celebration of liberation from the tyranny of occupation and the welcoming back of the Royal family to Dutch soil. Decorative plate to commemorate Queen Juliana's ascension of the Dutch throne in 1948. The plate is meant to be hung and has a piece of string for this purpose inserted through the rim on the back of the plate. The inscription reads: "Juliana Koningin 6 Sept.1948". On the back are the marks: "290KR." "BVK Soest" and "P.H.". It is gaily painted in red, blue and green on an off-white background. The central scene is recognisably Amsterdam with church tower, stepped gables and Dutch flags. The border consists of a circle of red, white and blue flowers; leaves are green. -

Mission to Seafarers Victoria
Poster, Mission to Seamen, Special Lantern Services 1917, 1917
1917 was the year in which the new Mission at 717 Flinders St extension was being built but did not open until after Michaelmas that year. The old Mission opened in 1907 on the Australian Wharf was obviously still in operation. Proposed remodelling of the wharf necessitating removal of the Mission perhaps deferred due to the Great War.This detailed poster intended for visiting crews in 1917 provides some insight into the fact of continued access to the old Mission required circa 1914 by the Port Authority to be vacated. As an ephemeral document it has survived unusually well.A small poster or flyer with blue printed text and featuring the Missions to Seamen, Melbourne flag with logo. Addressed at the top edge as A Message to Men advertising Special Lantern Services in the Seamen's Chapel on the Australian Wharf for Holy Week and Easter 1917.Describes a program of special services and concerts or recitals for the last week of lent and Easter Day. Melbourne Legacy
Badge, Badges from World War One
A variety of badges that once belonged to J B McLean some are souvenirs and a couple are from the A.I.F. The badges for those returned from active service could be worn by soldiers and nurses who returned to Australia from active service and were honourably discharged. From information found online: The badge from Ypres is known as a sweetheart badge. Often produced post war as a souvenir. It is the arms of the city of Ypres/Ieper. The crown over the shield is called a "mural crown" and is often seen as part of the arms of cities and towns. The phrase 'sweetheart brooch' is commonly used, but is misleading, as it was not only 'sweethearts' that wore them. These were with other World War 1 memorabilia that has come from Private John Basil McLean, 2nd Reinforcements, 37th Battalion, A.I.F. J.B. McLean (Service No. 13824) was from near Maffra, Victoria and enlisted on 22 January 1916. He embarked on 16 December 1916 for Europe. He spent time with the Australian Field Artillery (Pack Section). At the end of the war he worked for a year at the A.I.F. Headquarters in London before returning to Australia on the 'Ceramic', arriving in Portsea in 1920. His full war record is available from the National Archives of Australia (B2455, MCLEAN JBM).This is an example of badges held by an ex soldier.Seven assorted badges collected by J B McLean. Two returned from active service AIF badges. A kangaroo badge on a blue enamel circle with the word ANZAC. Badge with the arms of Ypres surmounted by a crown.
