These albums are attributed to Carl Grove (1849-1939) , first selector at Newmerella, where he planted hops in the 1880's. He was an orbost Shire councillor for 25 years, helped to establish the library and the Mechanics Institute and was one of the first Orbost Butter Factory directors.These albums are significant mainly for their connection to Carl Grove.The collection of live plant specimens from the wild with correct labelling can provide a record to be used for research.Three large books of botanical specimens. This coat came from the McFadyen/Mathieson family. Lois McFadyen' s mother was Annie Beryl Mathieson who married John Harman in Nullawarre in 1939. Annie Beryl died in Macarthur in 1983. The coat may have been made from rabbit fur.This coat is retained as a fine example of an item of women's clothing worn as a fashion statement in the early to mid 20th century.This is a brown fur coat with a collar and long sleeves. These items were hand sewn by Annie Beryl Mathieson, the daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth Mathieson who lived at Naringal. The silk came from China, via family connections. Annie Beryl Mathieson married John Harman in 1939, lived at Macarthur and died there in 1983.These items are retained as mementos of the type of clothing made and worn by women in the early to mid 20th century.1 Cream silk lady's panties with hand embroidery on the lower legs. City of KewReference, Research, InformationKHS Imposed OrderKew in Victoria was declared a City in 1921, and remained so until it was amalgamated into the City of Boroondara in 1994. This is a single large archive file, primarily comprised of Kew Council documents, a number of which date from an earlier period. Interesting early primary sources include: 1914 Amendments to the Local Government Act of 1903 [copy owned by Mr W.J. Muntz C.E.]; a Cleansing Contract [for the removal of night-soil] (1913); an Annual Statement of Accounts (1923); and By-Law No.66 (1939) [relating to the “Erection Construction and Removal of Buildings, Advertising Signs, Etc.”; and the Councillor’s Handbook (1939). In addition to these, later publications relate to Financial Statements (1986, 1987, 1988); Model Local Laws (1989); a Municipal Emergency Management Plan (1990); Mobile Bin Recycling Trial (1991); a School Project Kit (1991-2); and Committee Minutes (1992). In December 1939 the excavation of the diversion tunnel at the site of Junction (Lake Guy) Dam was commenced and finished in February, 1940.This allowed the stream to be diverted to facilitate the dam wall construction. This is a 'slab and buttress' dam. It is framed with timber and concrete then poured into the structure. A contract was let to Lewis Construction Co. for the construction of the dam, and the first batch of concrete was placed in September, 1940. Industrial trouble caused some delays but there was also slow progress on the part of the contractor and the work was taken over by the S.E.C., terminating the contract. The dam was completed in March, 1944. The lake is named after Mr. L.T. Guy who was the Resident Engineer, in charge of construction work and associated activities on the Kiewa area, from 1939 until November 1946. An historical pictorial record taken for the State Electricity Commission of Junction Dam (Lake Guy) on spill. Mt.
