Puffing Billy Railway
6A - Victorian Railways Na class steam locomotive, 1901
6A Built in 1901 and painted two-tone green, this locomotive was issued to the Colac to Beech Forest line and was used in that line’s construction. Over the years, it saw service on all four lines, but mostly on the Colac to Crowes and Upper Fern Tree Gully to Gembrook lines. It was temporarily withdrawn from service in 1958 and returned to service at Belgrave in 1962 for the reopening of this line where it saw almost continuous service until being withdrawn in 1983. It has been restored, as far as possible, to its original condition with original design side tanks, low bunker, original size windows, etc., but a steel cow-catcher in place of the original style wooden one. It also has its original colour scheme of two-tone green with white lining. Functional object - Thunderbox, Circa 1930’s
The Great Ocean Road was built by World War 1 returned servicemen. Tolls were collected as sections of the road were completed. The first toll house was at Grassy Creek. It operated from 1922 to 1932 when it was moved to The Springs at Cathedral Rock about 5 km east of Lorne. The thunderbox is believed to have been used here at sometime between 1932 and 1936This is a rare archeological find. Items n this location are often damaged by the action of the sea and salt air. It is intimately associated with the early years of the development of the Great Ocean Road and the daily life of the workers. It is a typical example of the type of toilet used at the time. This reclaimed timber thunder box is enclosed on three sides. There is a circular hole on the top with a wooden handled lid attached by a chain. Eight books donated to ballarat College from old collegian Laura McRae. Ballarat College enrolled female students 1877 - 1892. The school holds no further record of Laura McRae's enrolment. It may be relevant that a Peter and Alexander McRae, brothers from Carngham Station, attended the school in 1880s. Significantly this donation occurred prior to the establishment of the Weatherly Library in 1936. Significant example of the various ways old collegians continued to contribute to the school with generosity throughout their adult lives.Eight books variously titled and sizedBook plate inside front cover: ballarat College Library / PRESENTED BY / Miss McRae (An Old Girl Collegian) 1932....laura-mcrae, alexander-mcrae, ballarat-college, ballarat-college-girl-students, peter-mcrae, 1932 -

Originally labelled "Beauville Estate, Established 1936, Still Thriving 65 years on, 10th March 2001", the Beauville Estate Album contains colour photographs of houses in the Estate. They were taken around the time of the Beauville Estate’s 65th Heritage Celebration held on 10/03/2001 and donated to the Caulfield Historical Society shortly afterwards. Photographer unknown. See also 2104A-City of Glen Eira’s Heritage Management Plan Vol 2 p79 (this is p84 of the pdf version) – HO12 Beauville Estate and environs, Murrumbeena: The Beauville Historic Area is important at the State level as the first large housing estate undertaken by the AV Jennings Construction Co, later Jennings Group Limited, Victoria’s largest home builder. It is important also as a very early estate development incorporating a range of features other than houses and including made roads, shops and recreation facilities. In this respect it was the forerunner of the comprehensively planned housing estate of the post war era. The estate is distinguished by its aesthetic values, as is the earlier and comparable Hillcrest Estate, which are formed by a combination of restrained diversity in house styles, with the exception of no. 30 in the emerging International style, and by a landscaped garden environment. Colour photograph of the driveways, unpainted variegated brown brick garages and similar side gates (one white and square, the other arched and dark) of two unpainted variegated brown brick houses. The two houses and gardens are only partially included in the photograph.
