Dean Filgate advised 24-12-2020: Unfortunately an un-used example, from the same block that most collectors obtained one for their collection ! There are genuine used examples of similar 6d (purple overprint) tickets, however I cannot find my "files" about these: there were at least two places this type of ticket was used in the early to mid-1930s. This equipment was located in the outpatients department (Philip Block) until September 2021 when it was deemed obsolete by Infection Prevention. Hubert Ingham Clements (1886-1969) was an Australian engineer who established his own engineering business in NSW in 1908 manufacturing combustion engines. He became interested in anaesthesia equipment and from the 1920s Clements worked on improving ether apparatus and manufacturing portable suction machines for use in hospital operating theatres. The latter machines were to earn an unrivalled reputation for reliability; many remained in service over thirty years after their date of production. The business became H. I. Clements & Son when his son William joined the company. Model packaged in a wooden packing case with a red felt base, contained within a card board outer case. The card board cover or case has a printed sheet giving details of the model and the history of the W5 Class tramcar. The wooden case has a brass plate detailing the contents. Scale 00 or 1:76. Tram originally built for The North Melbourne Electric Tramways and Lighting Co. (NMETL) in 1906 as a straight sill open cross bench tram. Photograph is of the tram body on an un-motored truck or wheel set and has been posed for an official MMTB photograph in 1925, soon after the workshops were completed. It shows the destination of "M River" for Maribyrnong River.Shows the only type of fully open cross bench tram operated by the MMTB. This style was popular as a summer tram in North America. Originally built by Brill (USA) in 1906 and assembled by Duncan and Fraser for the NMETL as Tram No. 14. Photograph shows a group of five cable tramway employees with a cart containing batteries to supply power for lights in Melbourne Cable trams. This lighting was introduced by the Tramway Board (TB), the forerunner to the MMTB during 1917. A motor generator at each car house or depot provided the power to charge the batteries which were then placed in each tram for the day. Reference - The Commonwealth Engineer 1/8/1917 - Reg Item 2568. The equipment was provided by the General Electric Company. The cart has the letters "TB CH" possibly indicating Clifton Hill Depot and the batteries are lettered "NE" and then given a number. Photo date unknown - 1917 to 1940. This photograph is Public Records Office photo H84 in the Victorian Railways collection.Yields information about the type of batteries used to provide lighting power to cable trams and the workers involved and their clothing. Location is outside the main entrance of the Melbourne Electric Supply Co Ltd, as displayed to the right of the door. The sign on the left may be ELECTRICITY SUPPLY/TRAMWAYS DEPARTMENT. Location of the entrance is in Yarra St, immediately south of the Corio Tce. intersection, and better shown in plate 9201. Motor registration is 4590, probably 1910.
