Shows the temporary trackwork that was built to facilitate this during early 1926. Has two W class trams at the intersection with many motor vehicles. Shows many wooden blocks being laid. In the background is the Powell's Conner Hotel and the Junction Hotel. There is a sign on the Corner Hotel advertising the Palais theatre and its pictures. Ticket - light brown paper, "Combined Fare Ticket" - MMTB, over printed with a red 5d, and Ticket Number A B 425191. with conditions of travel on the front. On the rear is printed in red ink is an advert for B. Matthews Pty Ltd, with head office at 102-110 Toorak Road, South Yarra, advertising a Motor Funeral Service. Dean Filgate advised 24-12-2020: Unfortunately an un-used example, from the same block that most collectors obtained one for their collection ! There are genuine used examples of similar 6d (purple overprint) tickets, however I cannot find my "files" about these: there were at least two places this type of ticket was used in the early to mid-1930s. One was a "Combined Fare Ticket to and from the City via The Coburg Electric and Brunswick Cable Cars", the other was used on the Glen Huntly lines to enable passengers to pay only once for their journey to the City, as until 1934 trams from Glen Huntly Depot did not run direct to the City - you had to transfer trams at Elsternwick or Ripponlea.trams, tramways, melbourne, tickets, mmtb, advertisements -

Higgins, regarding a paper he had presented and printed in Australian Municipal Journal about transport around Melbourne, predicted the demise of trams, trains. Notes Spencer St bridge. Forty Eight page, side staple book within blue Rexene covers. Titled "Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways /Electric System /Instructions to Drivers in Electric Car Operation" Dated 1966. Printed by Regent Press Pty Ltd, 457 Plenty Road, Preston. Provides in a Q & A format, instructions to drivers in electric car operation, photos of various types of controllers, an A.B.C. for tramways drivers - "always" points to remember and has a reference index. Copy 1 - has telephone numbers of Training School and specific pointers re Regulations 106 and 107 and some of the Q&A have been circled in blue. This copy was imaged. The May 1974 instructions of "Tram car Braking on Greasy Rails", has adhesive tape remnants. Copy 2 - 1/5/1975 instructions loose inside the book. Copy 3 - added 29/5/2014 from the collection of R. Wearne. Copy 4 - added 15-6-2015 - from Ron Scholten donation of 11-4-2015. Copy 5 - added 14-12-2015 from donation of Norm Cross 11-10-2009. Had the instructions for Tram car braking on Greasy Rails appended inside front cover - loose, with adhesive tape remnants. Book published to celebrate the centenary of the opening of the first cable tram in Melbourne, 11/11/1885. Reviews the history of trams in Melbourne, cable trams, horse trams, Clapp, municipal tramways, electric trams, MMTB, buses, Preston Workshops, Wattle Park and the Metropolitan Transit Authority. Notes the MTA winning the tender to building the Kowloon - Canton Light Rail system and Melbourne's Automatic Vehicle Monitoring System. Leisure object - Model tram and presentation case, Cooee Concepts Pty Ltd, Model of Melbourne tram W5 (actually a SW5) No. 812, 2008
Model of Melbourne tram W5 (actually a SW5) No. 812, electric model, made by Cooee Concepts Pty Ltd in China. Model packaged in a wooden packing case with a red felt base, contained within a card board outer case. The card board cover or case has a printed sheet giving details of the model and the history of the W5 Class tramcar. The wooden case has a brass plate detailing the contents. Scale 00 or 1:76. Model made from plastic and metal, with operable lights and motors with operable trolley poles, swivelling bogies, destination of St Kilda, showing route 16. Headlights function in the direction of travel. Package has manufacturing date of 2008 printed on it. Contains a plastic cover strip, plastic holder for the tram, plastic lift out strip, a printed Certificate of Authenticity, No. 335 of 700 and a folded sheet giving instructions for the use of the tram on a model tramway - up to 15V DC.trams, tramways, models, w5 class, the met, cooee models, tram 812 -
